THE FATHER OF PLASTIC SURGERY CAME FROM KASHI 🇮🇳🩺

More than 2,500 years ago, a teacher and surgeon from Kashi changed the history of medicine. His name was Sushruta.

Today, he is widely regarded as one of the world's earliest and greatest surgeons.

This week, his statue was unveiled at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, one of the oldest and most respected surgical institutions in the world a global recognition of India's ancient scientific heritage.

In his monumental work, the Sushruta Samhita, Sushruta documented over 300 surgical procedures and described more than 120 surgical instruments.

His writings covered plastic surgery, cataract operations, fracture treatment, wound management, and several other medical procedures centuries before many of them appeared elsewhere.

His technique of reconstructing a nose using skin from the patient’s own body later became known as the “Indian Method” of rhinoplasty and influenced modern plastic surgery across the world.

Sushruta also described methods of pain management and wound care using natural substances such as honey, turmeric, and herbal preparations many of which continue to be studied today. 🌿

There was a time when scholars, physicians, and travelers looked toward India for knowledge of medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy.

The story of Sushruta reminds us that India was not merely a student of civilization it was one of its great teachers. 🚩
