"Killers Night" is an annual event organized by the Indian Navy's Missile Vessel Squadron in Mumbai to commemorate their historic Operation Trident during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. This operation led to the Indian Navy celebrating December 4th as Navy Day.
🧜♀️ The "Killers Night" 2025 was celebrated at the Captain Mulla Auditorium in Mumbai.
🥳 Happy to share that I served as Div. Commander of the Missile Boat Squadron and Commanding Officer INS Pralaya during my hay days in the Navy. Both my wife Shail and self were invited to be part of the celebrations.
🥁 The highlights of the evening were:
🥇 The "Best Ship" trophy among the Killer Squadron was awarded for the year's performance.
🥁 The annual 'Killers' magazine, 'First Strike', was released.
🧙♂️ Veterans were felicitated for their gallantry.
😍 Let's recollect the history of the 1971 victory in the north Arabia Sea:
🎺 The Missile Vessel Squadron earned the nickname "Killers" due to their daring and successful attacks on the Karachi harbor and Pakistani naval vessels in December 1971.
🎺 Operation Trident (night of Dec 4-5, 1971): Indian Naval ships Nirghat, Nipat, and Veer fired Styx missiles, sinking Pakistani Navy ships PNS Khaibar, PNS Muhafiz, and MV Venus Challenger, and destroying oil storage facilities, all without any Indian casualties.
🎺 Operation Python (night of Dec 8-9, 1971): Another attack was launched by INS Vinash along with other frigates, which damaged more vessels and inflicted further damage to the Keamari oil fields.
These operations are considered among the most successful in modern naval history and a key turning point in the war.
