World Schizophrenia Day

What do I wish more of us understood about it, people living with this condition and those who love, care, and support them

It's a complex, Neurobiological disorder seeded in the brain, impacting thinking, perception, emotions, and functioning.
It's treatable.

People with Schizophrenia aren't faking it, lazy, burden, or violent.
They can lead productive creative and independent, full lives

Those who care for them are not "the cause", are not "cutsed", and their love alone won't "cure it".
Families, friends, colleagues need empathy, support, breaks, and sometimes professional help

After more than 25 years as a Psychiatrist, I still find it challenging, and yet, I am still awed by my patients and their families
I wish less people suffer from it, and more people living with it get the acceptance, empathy, and care they require and deserve

Talking Women's Health!
We need to reach out to women everywhere we meet to remind them to prioritize themselves - it makes all kinds of sense isnt it, after all we rock the world not just all the cradels in it
So glad that corporates are making space for these conversations

PS: took fun pictures, bought lots of goodies in NGO stalls, and a saree for Ammi that she liked and the day was complete

Was honoured to be invited as a special guest to speak with Cancer patients, caregivers, care teams by on their milestone 25 year Foundation Day celebration.
The illness can a take a toll on all aspects of live - physical, mental, financial, social, professional. Without resilience it is difficult to continue with self care. Without support it is difficult to carry on.
Evidence suggests that mental health care from the very first step of Cancer Care can positively impact treatment compliance, reduces burn out (in patients and care givers) and improves outcomes.

When women learn something, especially about taking care of our health we share and share and share so all women we know also know what to do! Women are the best community makers and nurturers and make the best leaders. Women lift each other while rising ourselves. Women dont need anyone behind us but want everyone with us side by side to break glass ceilings and climb glass hills. So many talented, inspiring and generous people from not just health sector but across industries came together to teach, learn, share and shine.
As Chair of CII IWN Maharashtra it was humbling that we go all yays by our Speakers. So much support from our CII team and sponsors made this day possible. We had a great audience, most of whom stayed right till the end and their effervescent energy was what made the entire effort so rewarding. We know these leaders will impact those others around them for healthier and happier women and society.
Women's Health can no longer remain a footnote!

How time flew talking to these young minds! These students of were a fun, attentive, responsive, interactive bunch and an hour session on Mental Health and Psychiatry turned to two, and only the risk of lunch being missed made us finally leave.
It was lovely to interact with their mentors and the CEO.
Plans are being made to soon begin a bimonthly, professional lead, peer support group to eqip them with life skills and sucess tools on their journey.
