Today is the 4th Ayurveda Day..

Ayurveda is perceived as one of the most ancient and well documented system of medicine equally relevant in modern times.

Its holistic approach whether for healthy individuals or for diseased ones remains unparalleled. Prevention of disease and promotion of health is the main aim of Ayurveda.

Lord Dhanvantari is considered as divine propagator of Ayurveda. He is conferred with the virtues of granting health and wealth.

Therefore, Dhanvantari Jayanti was preferred for celebration of Ayurveda Day to nationalize this system of medicine which can prove to be a cornerstone for its ultimate globalization.

This initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH will not only encourage the practitioners and students of Ayurveda but also will develop awareness in the society about Ayurveda.

Drinking water before meals can help you lose weight.

Vagbhata in his book Ashtangahridayam has said,
समस्थूलकृशा भुक्तमध्यान्तप्रथमाम्बुपा:।
means:
Drinking water along with meals helps to maintain the weight and is healthy.
Drinking water after the meals increases the weight and causes obesity.
Drinking water before the meals decreases the weight and makes one thin.
Recent researches also have proven this.
Obesity is a biggest challenge now a days.
These simple habits of drinking water can help us in maintaining our weight.

Ayurveda in General Practice (GP).

General practice mostly refers to the practice at small clinics where very first aid treatments are given. These are the centers where almost every patient goes at the first, after getting any health complaints. Mostly fever, cough, cold, diarrheas, bites, accidents, injuries, different body pains, etc. etc. to almost all acute issues are treated here. At these all centers, modern medicine is used.

Ayurveda can also be equally used at these centers, with the same effectivity of Ayurveda treatments. This is a new concept.

Ayurveda treatment basically works by improving body's own defence mechanism. So it takes time and needs strict dietetic and other restrictions. And hence there are no side effects.

With this concept, we had organized a seminar during our PG with grand success on 21/09/2003, at our R.T. Ayurveda College, Akola, Maharashtra-India.

In the seminar, I had presented a paper on 'Management of stroke in Ayurveda General Practice'.

Lazyness-The biggest cause of big illnesses.

We know that we everyone can do two types of activities- mental & physical.
We also know, empty mind is devil's workshop. Similarly, we can say, lazy body is diseases' home.
Now a days, we made our lives so sedentary, that our physical activities becoming very less day by day.
We have lot of mental work, but no physical work.
Because of this, we are facing big illnesses like, Diabetes, Hypo & Hyperthyroidism, Hypertension, Stroke, Paralysis, Obesity, Stress, Heart Diseases, etc.

So, if we want to keep ourselves away from such life destroying illnesses, we should keep proper balance in our mental and physical activities.
