🐕 Dog Bite First Aid at Home: What You Must Do Immediately
Dog bites are common but often underestimated. Even a small bite or scratch can lead to serious infections, including Rabies, which is almost always fatal if not treated in time. Simple and immediate home care can significantly reduce the risk.

🩹 Step-by-Step Home Management of Dog Bite

🚰 Wash the Wound Thoroughly (Most Important Step):
1. Wash immediately with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes
2. This helps remove saliva and reduces the risk of Rabies transmission
3. Do not skip this step—even for small scratches

🩸 Control Bleeding
1. Apply gentle pressure using a clean cloth or sterile gauze
2. Minor bleeding is common and may help flush bacteria

💊 Apply Antiseptic
1. Use povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine
2. Avoid applying irritants like Toothpaste, chilli, turmeric, or soil (common harmful practices)

🤕 Cover the Wound Properly
1. Use a clean, loose sterile dressing
2. Do not tightly close puncture wounds as infection can get trapped inside

💊 Medications
1. Pain relief: Paracetamol is usually sufficient
2. Antibiotics: May be required in certain cases (consult a doctor)
3. Tetanus vaccine: Needed if vaccination is outdated
4. Anti Rabies vaccine (ARV): In category II & III wound.

🦠 Rabies Prevention: Life-Saving Information
- Rabies is 100% fatal but 100% preventable
- Even minor scratches can transmit the virus
- Post-exposure vaccination (ARV) is essential in most cases
- Severe bites may require rabies immunoglobulin (RIG)

🐕‍🦺 Vaccinated dog can transmit rabies?
A dog effectively vaccinated against rabies cannot suffer and transmit the disease. However, in absence of laboratory documentation of protection, it cannot be presumed that a vaccinated dog is actually protected, given the variable efficacy of various antirabies vaccines in animals and health status of animals. Hence, irrespective of the vaccination status of biting dogs, the Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) should be given.

🤰🏽Rabies vaccine in Pregnancy & lactation:
Not contraindicated to rabies vaccination or immunoglobulin.
Rabies vaccination is SAFE and recommended during pregnancy.
There is no contraindication to giving anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) in pregnant women.
Preventing Rabies is life-saving for both mother and fetus.

💉 Rabies Vaccine (ARV) in Infants
Same schedule as adults.
Dose is NOT reduced
Safe and well tolerated, no contraindication.

😬 Human bite
Human bite ≠ rabies vaccine by default
Rabies PEP only if the biter is suspected rabid or high-risk

👨‍⚕️ Key Message for Everyone
👉 “Wash for 15 minutes — it can save your life.”
👉 If in doubt, vaccinate — never risk rabies.
👉 Never ignore a dog bite, even if it looks small.
👉 If it’s a mammal — assess for rabies.

✨ Why Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Is Better Than Open Surgery ✨

Gallbladder stones are a common cause of abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, and repeated hospital visits. Today, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, also known as key-hole surgery, has become the gold standard treatment for gallbladder stone disease.

🔹 What is laparoscopic cholecystectomy?
It is a minimally invasive surgery where the gallbladder is removed using 3–4 very small incisions, a high-definition camera, and specialized instruments—without making a large cut on the abdomen.

✅ Advantages of Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery

🔸 1. Minimal Cuts, Minimal Trauma
Only small incisions are made, unlike open surgery which requires a long cut below the ribs. This means less damage to muscles and tissues.

🔸 2. Less Pain After Surgery
Patients experience significantly less postoperative pain and usually require fewer pain medications.

🔸 3. Faster Recovery
Most patients can walk on the same day and are discharged within 24–48 hours. Normal daily activities can be resumed within 7–10 days.

🔸 4. Shorter Hospital Stay
Compared to open surgery (which may require 5–7 days of admission), laparoscopic surgery allows early discharge and comfort at home.

🔸 5. Lower Risk of Wound Complications
There is a reduced chance of wound infection, wound breakdown, and incisional hernia.

🔸 6. Better Cosmetic Outcome
Small scars that heal well and are barely visible—an important benefit for many patients.

🔸 7. Safer and More Precise Surgery
The magnified camera view gives a clear picture of internal anatomy, helping surgeons perform the operation safely and accurately.

⚠️ When is Open Surgery Needed?

In some situations, open surgery may still be required, such as:
• Severe inflammation or dense adhesions
• Suspicion of gallbladder cancer
• Uncontrolled bleeding
• Certain medical conditions where laparoscopy is not safe (Severe Cardiac Diseases, Severe Asthma etc)
• Conversion from laparoscopy for patient safety

🩺 Final Message

👉 For most patients, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is safer, less painful, and offers faster recovery compared to open surgery. Early consultation and timely surgery can prevent complications and repeated attacks of pain.

📞 If you are suffering from gallbladder stones, abdominal pain, or digestive discomfort, consult your surgeon for proper evaluation and treatment.

Your health, comfort, and safety always come first.
