Cervical laminectomy and Laminoplasty are surgical interventions designed to alleviate spinal cord pressure, offering hope to those suffering from debilitating neck pain. Cervical laminectomy involves removing a portion of the vertebra to create space, while laminoplasty cleverly reshapes and adjusts the vertebrae, preserving the spine's natural structure. These procedures provide critical relief for conditions causing spinal cord compression in the cervical region. Targeting ailments like cervical stenosis and herniated discs, laminectomy and laminoplasty stand out as essential treatments. Cervical Laminectomy involves removing the entire lamina (the back part of the vertebra) to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. This procedure can lead to more spinal instability because it removes structures that help support the spine. Often, spinal fusion is performed alongside laminectomy to provide stability to the spine after the removal of the lamina. In laminoplasty, the lamina is partially cut and hinged open like a door, or sections are removed and then reshaped or expanded to create more space for the spinal cord without completely removing any part.
