When a massive GI bleed strikes, every minute matters.
A 79-year-old patient presented with a massive gastrointestinal bleed, severe hypotension and critically low haemoglobin levels. Following initial stabilisation, an emergency gastroscopy identified an active bleeding point in the first part of the small intestine.
Under the care of Dr. Aditya Borawake, Consultant – Gastroenterology, immediate hemoclip placement successfully achieved haemostasis and controlled the bleeding. The patient stabilised, recovered well and was discharged after 3 days.
This case highlights how timely diagnosis, rapid intervention and expert gastroenterology care can make a critical difference in a GI bleeding emergency.
