Partial vs Total Knee Replacement — Which One Is Better?
Both Partial Knee Replacement and Total Knee Replacement aim to reduce knee pain and improve mobility and function—but they are not the same.
🔹 Partial Knee Replacement: Only the damaged compartment of the knee is replaced. It may be considered when arthritis is limited to a specific area and the important knee ligaments are functioning well.
🔹 Total Knee Replacement: Multiple damaged compartments of the knee are replaced and may be recommended when arthritis affects a larger portion of the joint.
The choice depends on several factors, including the extent of arthritis, ligament condition, age, weight, and overall knee health.
👉 So, saying that partial knee replacement is always better than total knee replacement is not correct. However, in carefully selected patients, partial knee replacement can offer excellent recovery and help patients get back to their daily activities.
The right procedure depends on your individual knee condition—not just the type of surgery.
