When the head moves forward from its normal position, the neck muscles have to work much harder. This is called Forward Neck Posture or Text Neck.

Normally, the human head weighs around 4–5 kg in a neutral position.
But as the neck bends forward, the pressure on the spine increases.

Upper Cross Syndrome is a posture problem caused by long sitting, mobile use, or working on computers.

In this condition, chest and neck muscles become tight, while upper back and shoulder muscles become weak. It can lead to neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches, rounded shoulders, and poor posture.
People may also feel stiffness and tiredness in the upper body. Physiotherapy, stretching, posture correction, and strengthening exercises help improve this condition.

Simple habits like sitting straight, taking breaks during work, and avoiding long screen time can prevent Upper Cross Syndrome and keep the spine and muscles healthy.

Good vs Poor Posture

Good posture keeps ear, shoulder, and hip aligned with the spine’s natural S-curve.
Load is balanced and muscles stay relaxed. Poor posture like forward head or rounded back shifts stress to discs and ligaments.
This causes stiffness, pain, and weak performance. Fix with chin tucks and back extensions daily.

*Morning Spine Stiffness*

Morning spine stiffness occurs when discs swell overnight and joints get less lubrication from inactivity.
Heavy training, poor sleep posture, or tight hips worsen it.
Fix it with gentle mobility: cat-camel, knee rocks, and thoracic rotations for 2 minutes after waking.

If stiffness exceeds 1 hour daily, consult a physio.

Anterior Pelvic Tilt (APT) is a common postural condition where the front of the pelvis rotates forward and the back of the pelvis rises.

Common Causes
1- Prolonged Sitting: Causes hip flexors to become chronically “short” and tight.
2- Muscle Imbalances: Specifically, a “crossed” pattern of tight and weak muscles.
3- Lack of Activity: Leads to underactive glutes and core muscles.

Postpartum back pain is super common. Your body went through a lot during pregnancy and delivery, and it can take time to recover.

*Why it happens:*
- *Pregnancy changes*: Hormones like relaxin loosened your ligaments and joints. Your center of gravity shifted, putting strain on your lower back.
- *Labor & delivery*: Pushing, epidurals, and awkward positions during delivery can strain back muscles.
- *Post-delivery life*: Lifting baby, bending over cribs, breastfeeding hunched over, and carrying car seats all add stress to your back. Sleep deprivation means muscles don’t recover as well.
- *Weakened core*: Abdominal muscles are stretched and weak after pregnancy, so your back picks up the slack.

A neck hump, or dowager’s hump, is a fatty-fibrous pad plus increased thoracic kyphosis at the C7-T1 junction.

Main causes: prolonged forward head posture from phones/laptops, weak deep neck flexors and mid-back, tight pecs and suboccipitals, low bone density, and excess weight.

It can cause stiffness, headaches, and shoulder strain. Physiotherapy targets the root: chin-tuck holds to recruit deep neck flexors, thoracic extensions for mobility, band rows and wall slides to strengthen scapular retractors, and pec/suboccipital stretches. Ergonomic fixes, frequent movement breaks, and a rolled towel under the upper back help remodel posture.

Rounded shoulders and a hunched upper back, or kyphosis, develop from tight chest and lat muscles paired with weak mid-back, deep neck flexors, and serratus.

Hours of desk or phone use let gravity pull you forward. It often brings neck strain, shoulder pinching, shallow breathing, and headaches.
Physiotherapy targets the pattern: stretch pecs and lats, mobilize the thoracic spine with foam-roller extensions, and strengthen scapular stabilizers using band rows, wall slides, and prone Y-T-Ws.
Add chin tucks for neck alignment and core work for support. Daily posture cues and ergonomic tweaks lock in changes.
