Happy Child Month !!!
The Optimist Club of Manor Park (OCMP) remains committed to the development of our youth as productive citizens of Jamaica. This Child Month there are several projects that the Club will execute in honour of our Nations Children.
On Tuesday, May 05, 2026 which was observed as "Read Across Jamaica", under the theme "Literacy resilience: foundation of nation building", members from the OCMP participated in numerous initiatives at our sponsor schools as follows:
1.Apart from reading exercises, the Club treated the students at Lalyce Gray Early Childhood to cake and Ice-cream. This was a joint collaboration with members of the Kiwanis Club of Constant Spring. Participating members were IPP Marcia, S/T Diana, Charter Member Carolle and Optimist Humphrey.
2.At the Cockburn Gardens Primary School, our Community Service Chairman participated in literacy activities with the grade 6 cohort. The book chosen was, "Yes, I Can" by Devon Harris, which illustrate the epic story of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics Jamaican Bobsled Team.
3.Lastly but certainly not least, the New Providence Primary School was also graced by members of the OCMP lead by Dir. Monica who read to a group of Grade 4 students. The book chosen was entitled "Fox Learns a Lesson ".
