# Who Is a Caregiver?
At ASHRE Care, we often think of caregivers as nurses, healthcare aides, and support workers formally trained to care for others.
But caregiving is much broader than that.
Across Jamaica, many family members quietly care for aging parents, spouses, siblings, relatives, and loved ones every single day — often while balancing work, family responsibilities, financial pressures, and their own personal wellbeing.
Some manage medications and appointments.
Some provide emotional support.
Some coordinate care from overseas.
Some help with meals, transportation, mobility, or daily activities.
Many never even recognize themselves as caregivers.
They simply see themselves as:
* daughters
* sons
* spouses
* siblings
* relatives
* friends
Doing what they believe family should do.
Yet caregiving can impact every part of a person’s life:
emotionally,
physically,
financially,
and mentally.
As we begin building the Jamaica Caregiver Support Network in partnership with Faith Angels, we want to better understand the realities caregivers across Jamaica experience every day.
Have you ever thought of yourself as a caregiver?
Do you know someone who is?
