Every year in April, Shoinji opens its doors to display Hakuin’s works.

Talking with the monks and followers of Hakuin was such a good learning experience. Always refreshing and inspiring 🙏
Also, everyone was overjoyed to know that in Triratna we study his teachings, recite Kahuin’s Song of Meditation and have so many books about him.

I told the monks that I will bring people from Triratna and they were happy, but they also asked me to bring people that suffer from bad mental states. They are the ones that require more attention and they will get a big hug from the monks 🥰 isn’t this a beautiful offer?❤️❤️

Eiheiji is one of the most beautiful Buddhist monasteries in Japan. Founded by Dogen -one of the four Japanese teachers in our Refuge Tree-

When Lily, Akuppa and i (Susana) reached the main gate of Eiheiji, at 2:46 pm, the emergency alarms went off commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami. Nationwide everyone stopped for a minute of silence. For the three of us was a very auspicious moment - to be at a special place at a special time- in silence.

With our hearts full of special energy we walked outside, through the beautiful cemetery and hiked up a mountain on the quest for Kannon sama (Avalokiteshvara) which turned into a funny zen adventure 😄

The next morning we visited the monastery and pay respect to Dogen’s remains.

Last week, Lily, Dizzy (LBC), Akuppa (Newcastle) and i (Susana😊) had a day trip to Hara to visit the temple where Hakuin was the abbot four centuries ago. We gave the current abbot a framed poster of the Refuge Tree where Hakuin is among the four Japanese teachers of Bhante.
The Refuge Tree is a present from Adhisthana in return for the beautiful Daruma rupas we got last summer.

This time too was a special trip with a nice interview with a young monk who talked extensively about Hakuin’s works, teachings, community engagement and humility. He answered all our questions and told us stories that were never written.
Hakuin’s grave is in the back side of the temple’s cemetery.
