Hi Oki mamas! 👋🏾
I realized I never properly introduced myself here, so I wanted to share a little about the heart behind Oki Baby Bliss. 🤍
This photo was taken on the beach here in Okinawa while I was pregnant with my first VBAC baby—a moment that represents so much of my own birth journey.
My name is Chelsey. I’m a birth doula and placenta specialist serving families here in Okinawa, and a VBA2C mama of four little ones, all ages six and under. For the past three years, I’ve had the joy of supporting families through birth and placenta encapsulation, helping parents feel empowered and cared for in the postpartum period.
My husband is in the Marine Corps, which brought our family to Okinawa four years ago. Like many military families, we’ve experienced pregnancy and postpartum far from family, which is part of what led me to this work.
My passion for birth support began with my own journey. My first two babies were born via emergent C-sections, and I didn’t feel fully informed about my options. Those experiences inspired me to learn everything I could about birth, and I became what I like to call a “birth nerd.” Here in Okinawa, I went on to have two empowering vaginal births that completely changed my perspective on birth.
I have a background in clinical social work (Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of San Francisco and Master of Social Work from the University of Missouri–St. Louis) and have always been drawn to supporting people through vulnerable seasons. Before becoming a mom, I also played basketball throughout college, which taught me resilience, discipline, and mental strength- skills that have carried over into motherhood, birth work, and running a small business.
Living on an island can sometimes feel isolating during pregnancy and postpartum, and my goal is to walk alongside families during this special and vulnerable time with education, encouragement, and support.
When I’m not supporting families, you’ll probably find me exploring the island with my kids, checking out local cafes, sipping coffee or tea, watching a beautiful Okinawa sunset, baking sourdough, or enjoying some boba. 🧋
If you’re expecting in Okinawa or curious about the birth services I offer, feel free to reach out! I’d love to connect and support you however I can. ☀️🌊
