山谷で暮らす〜ヤマザキさんの話(Voices from Sanya: Yamazaki-san)

ヤマザキさんは結YUIの”ごはん配り”（この地域で野宿をする人々に、カレーをはじめとした栄養のある食べ物を配り、体の具合が悪くないかなどを尋ねる活動）のシェフ👨‍🍳
Yamazaki-san is a chef for "Mobile Food Outreach"（an initiative where warm nutritious food, such as curry, is distributed to people experiencing homelessness in the local area, while also checking in on their health and well-being.） an activity organized by YUI Associates Inc.

ヤマザキさんは過去に、巡回看護中の義平真心さん（結YUIの代表）に路上でパックに詰められたカレーを手渡され、命を救われたといいます。
Yamazaki-san was saved his life in the past when Magokoro Yoshihira-san, the head of Associates Inc, handed him a pack of curry. on the street during a nursing round.

「本当に、涙が出るほど嬉しかったんだよ。自転車を買って、カレーを配達してもいる。大変だけれど、楽しいよね。自分で作ったカレーを皆に配って、喜んで貰えるんだから」と話すヤマザキさん🚲
"I was honestly so happy it brought tears to my eyes. I bought a bicycle and now I deliver curry, too.It's tough, but it's fun. When I hand out the curry I made myself and see people happy, it brings me joy. "Yamazaki-san says.

実は彼には劣悪な環境で生活保護費を不当に徴収する”貧困ビジネス”に騙され苦しい思いをした時期がありました。
In reality, there was a period when he suffered greatly after being tricked by a ”poverty business” that inappropriately collected welfare benefits in deplorable living conditions.

その施設はまるで牢獄のよう。利用者は皆、マイナンバー、銀行カード、印鑑、通帳、キャッシュカードなどを没収され、30万円の借金をノルマとして課せられていました。
The facility like a prison. All residents had their MyNumbers, bank cards, personal seals (hanko), passbooks, and cash cards confiscated, while being assigned a debt quota of 300,000 yen.

ふと、ヤマザキさんから、「ずっとここにいるの。ずっとここにいることにしたの。」という言葉が。
Out of nowhere, Yamazaki-san suddenly murmured"I'm staying here forever. I've decided to stay here forever."

家族と幼い頃に別れ、家庭をはじめとする身寄りのないヤマザキさん。貧困ビジネスでの経験も重なり、人を信用することも難しくなる。その中で、結YUIのサポートがヤマザキさんの心を再び温め、人と共に生きることを後押ししています☕️🫶
Separated from his family at his young age, Yamazaki-san has no relatives or family to turn to. Compounded by his harsh experiences with poverty business, trusting others has become difficult for him. Amidst this, the support of YUI Associate Inc has warmed his heart once again, encouraging him to live alongside others.

映画「消えゆく私の第二のふるさと」上映会の交流会には総勢25名が集まり、居場所や観光についてを語り合いました。

A total of 25 people gathered at the exchange meeting for the screening of the movie "My Disappearing Second Hometown" and talked about their places and sightseeing.

東洋大学から学生の参加があり、大学では子どもの居場所作りに取り組んだり、福祉事務所でのちらし配りや非行少年へのアウトリーチをしているそうです。映画は、そうした支援の後のアフターフォローを学ぶきっかけになったと言います🧑

Students from Toyo University also attended the event. In their academic and extracurricular lives, they are actively involved in creating "safe spaces" for children, distributing flyers at welfare offices, and conducting outreach for juvenile delinquents. They shared that the film provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the importance of "after-care" and ongoing support following initial intervention.

また、「町は大きな家なのだと気づいた。その中で助け合えたらと思った。」「人と触れ合う中での変化に感動した。ちょっとした関係で人が変わるという温かさを忘れてはいけない。」といった声も聞こえてきました🏡

Other voices from the audience shared their moving realizations: "I realized that this town is like one giant home, and I felt a deep desire for us all to help one another within it," said one participant. Another remarked, "I was deeply moved by the transformations that happen through human contact. We must never forget the warmth found in those small, everyday connections that have the power to change a person’s life."

イベントの終わりに、泪橋ホールの店主・多田裕美子さんからはこのような思いが語られました。  「この町はどんどん変わって行きますが、他の町と同じ様にはなってほしくないと思います。高齢者だけでなく、若い人の中にも生きづらさを抱えてこの場所を訪れる人もいます。福祉のあり方も変化しながらも、町の個性として優しさを引き継いでほしいです。」

At the end of the event, Yumiko Tada, the owner of Namidabashi Hall, offered a few words of greeting. Ms. Tada shared her vision for the hall, saying:
"As the town undergoes rapid change, I hope it doesn't become just another nameless city. We see not only the elderly but also young people seeking refuge here from the difficulties of life. Even as the nature of social support evolves, I want this unique 'kindness' to remain the defining character of our town."

この上映会は、山谷で人と人の思いが交差する機会となりました。　
It was an opportunity for people to cross their thoughts in Sanya.

映画「消えゆく私の第二のふるさと」上映会のトークショーでは、「再開発」をテーマにしたディスカッションも行われました🗣️

In the talk show of the screening of the movie , "The Disappearing Taste of My Second Home"a discussion on the theme of "redevelopment" was also held.
 自分の魅力に思っていた町が、オリンピックを契機に変わって行ってしまうということ。 ジェントリフィケーション（＝地価の上昇により家賃が上昇し、それによって住んでいた住民が排除され、そこにあった土地の風土も失われるといった問題を指す）が進むと、更なる投資家・不動産投資による地価上昇を招いて老朽化した簡易宿泊所や民家が売却され、ドヤ街がその姿を変えていきました。

It explores how the neighborhood the director found so charming began to transform, triggered by the Olympics. Through the process of gentrification, rising land prices and real estate investment pushed rents higher, effectively displacing long-time residents and erasing the local culture. As a result, the historic "doya" (flophouses) were bought up and sold off, causing the traditional flophouse districts to vanish.

登壇した真心さんは、 
「以前の建物や施設がマンションに変わって行きましたね。 でも、ドヤ自体には需要と可能性があるんです。 生活保護を受けて、紹介されるのは拘束的な場所が多いのですが、山谷に来る人は自由を求めているので自分が使えるお金がある方がいい。 そのためにドヤを選ぶ人の存在があるんです。  住民に語りかけることや、細やかなメンテナンスを行い、良い居場所にすれば入居者希望者も増えていきます。  町の変化というと、元気のあった人の高齢化や、長期的な野宿による体調不良が気になります。 巡回看護でのヒアリング活動などを通して、人によって紹介する部屋を考えてもいます。」

と、結YUIが福祉的なことを日常の中に溶け込むような形で行い、モデルになるような簡易宿泊所づくりを目指していることを伝えました。 
Magokoro-san shared her perspective:  "Old buildings and facilities have been replaced by condominiums. However, I believe there is still significant demand and potential for the doya themselves. Many welfare recipients are often referred to restrictive facilities, but those who come to Sanya seek freedom—they want autonomy over their own money. That is why they choose to live in a doya."  She continued, "By engaging with residents and providing meticulous maintenance to make these places truly comfortable, the number of people wishing to move in actually increases. Regarding the town’s changes, I am concerned about the aging of once-energetic residents and the declining health of those who have spent years living on the streets. Through our mobile nursing interviews, we carefully consider which rooms to recommend based on each person's specific needs."  YUI Associates Inc aims to create a model for flophouses where social welfare is seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

映画「消えゆく私の第二のふるさと」上映会が、かつて日雇い労働者の街として知られた山谷の歴史を背景にしながら、映画上映、ライブ、演芸、トークイベントなどを行う地域文化の拠点・泪橋ホールで開催されました🎬

The screening of the film "The Disappearing Taste of My Second Home" was held at Namidabashi Hall, a local cultural hub that hosts film screenings, live music, traditional performances, and talk events. The venue is deeply rooted in the history of the Sanya district, an area once known as a prominent neighborhood for day laborers.

上映されたのは、山谷を舞台に、日雇い労働者や路上生活者、生活保護受給者たちが暮らす町の姿と、そこで結YUIを中心に行われる地域づくりの実践に追ったドキュメンタリーです🌱

The documentary is set in Sanya and captures the lives of its residents—day laborers, people experiencing homelessness, and welfare recipients. It follows the community-building efforts centered around YUI Associates Inc. an initiative dedicated to supporting and revitalizing the neighborhood.

映画は、消えゆく町並みや高齢化の進む山谷の中で、社会から周縁化された人々が、同じ仲間として支え合い、ほっとできる居場所をつくろうとする営みを静かに見つめています。そして、町が変わり続ける中でも人と人が関わり合って、関係を結び直していくことの大切さを問いかけています。

The film quietly observes the lives of marginalized people in Sanya—a district facing aging populations and a disappearing cityscape—as they support one another as peers and strive to create a place to belong. Even as the neighborhood undergoes constant change, the documentary highlights the profound importance of rebuilding human connections and staying engaged with one another.

この日のトークショーにはこの映画の監督・桑原豊さんと、結YUIの代表・義平真心さんが登壇しました。また結YUIのメンバーであるフジサワさんが実際の生活の様子を語りました。

The talk show on that day featured the film’s director, Yutaka Kuwahara, and Magokoro Yoshihira, the representative of YUI Associates Inc. In addition, Fujisawa-san, a member of YUI, shared personal insights into what daily life is actually like there.

紫峰では月末の金曜日に「スープの日」があります。
生活保護費の受給日が近くなる月末はお財布が寂しくなるのと、健康的な食事をしてほしいと考えて、看護師の平さんとスタッフの奥村が中心となって始めました。

紫峰には共用のキッチンスペースがあり、フライパン、調理器具、食器などを使って自由に料理することができます。お弁当を温めたり、トースターでパンを焼いたり、手鍋でラーメンを作ったり、楽しみながら利用されています。「スープの日」もこの場所で調理しています。

On the last Friday of every month, we host “Soup Day” at Shiho! 🥣
At the end of the month, money can get a bit tight for our residents before their next assistance day. So, our nurse Taira-san and staff member Okumura teamed up to start this, wanting everyone to have access to a healthy meal.
We have a shared kitchen space at Shiho where anyone can cook, toast bread, or make ramen. It’s a fun, lively spot, and it’s where we cook our big batch of soup!

スープの具材は野菜多めと薄味が基本です。歯が悪い方もいらっしゃるので柔らかめに火を通します。

一度に約7リットルの分量を作ります。200円でおかわり1杯まですることが出来るので、お昼ご飯にはちょうど良い量です。中には追加でお支払い頂き、夕飯の分も持ち帰られる方もいます。

Our recipe is packed with veggies, low in sodium, and cooked until super soft so everyone can enjoy it easily. We make about 7 liters! It’s only 200 yen and comes with one free refill, which is perfect for lunch. Some people even buy extra to take home for dinner.

屋上菜園で収穫した野菜がある時はスープに入れさせてもらっています。

If we have fresh veggies from our rooftop garden, we toss those in too! 🥕🌱

スープを召し上がっている時、自然と話すきっかけにもなりました。健康状態や悩みや不安、最近の身の回りに起きた出来事など、食事があることでリラックスしてもらえていた気がしています。

この企画は、無理がないように続けること、そしてどうしたらより充実させられるかを工夫しながら行っていきます。

Eating soup together naturally brings people closer. Having a warm meal helps everyone relax and chat about their health, worries, or just everyday life. We want to keep this project going without rushing, and keep finding ways to make it even more special for everyone. ✨

山谷で暮らす〜フジサワさんの話 (Voices from Sanya: Fujisawa-san)

フジサワさんは、結YUIのメンバーです👥Fujisawa-san is a member of the YUI Associates Inc.

そのきっかけとなったのは、結YUIの活動であるゴミ拾いを手伝ったことでした💪It all started when he helped with a trash pickup, one of YUI's volunteer activities.

複雑な家庭環境のもとに生まれ、幼い頃に叔父に万引きを教えられた彼は、その手癖が治らずに、人生の約半分を刑務所で過ごしていました。そして、山谷へ来て生活保護を受けて暮らしていたのです。Born into a complicated family environment, he was taught to shoplift by his uncle at early childhood. Unable to break the habit, he ended up spending nearly half of his life in prison. And, He had moved to Sanya and was living on social welfare.

そんな彼はこう言いました。This is what he had to say.
「オーナーに会った時、自分にとってのターニングポイントだなと思ったの。」"When I met the owner, I knew it was a turning point for me."
オーナーというのは一般社団法人結YUIの代表理事を務める義平真心さんのこと。By "the owner," he means Magokoro Yoshihira, who serves as the representative director of YUI.

「義平さんに自分の過去を全て話した時、人間誰しも間違いがある。でも、やり直すことがいつでもできるのだと言ってもらえたんです。」
When I told Yoshihira-san everything about my past, she told me that everyone makes mistakes, but that it's always possible to start over.

義平さんがフジサワさんに出会った時、彼からは自分の人生を何とかしたいという切実さを感じたと言います。When Yoshihira-san first met Fujisawa-san, she said she could sense a deep sense of urgency in him—a desperate drive to claw his way up from the bottom.

フジサワさんはこれまでの人生の中で家族の縁を失い、自己否定の意識と闘い続けてきました。しかし、そうした意識や盗癖は、結YUIが居場所となり彼と絆を築くことで克服につながっています❤️‍🩹
Having lost the connection to his family at a young age, Fujisawa-san struggled with a deep-seated sense of self-hatred. Yet, YUI became the home he never had, and the bonds he formed there have led him to overcome his past struggles, including his kleptomania.

結YUIは支援を一方的に提供するだけでない関係性を町の中で築いています。フジサワさんが自ら変わりたいと思って始めたボランティア活動に伴走することが、彼が居場所を見つけるきっかけとなったのです👀🏘️
YUI aims for a community of mutual support rather than one-way assistance. By walking alongside Mr. Fujisawa as he started volunteering out of his own desire to change, YUI provided the foundation for him to discover a genuine sense of belonging.

何かしらの罪を負った過去があり、社会復帰をしたものの社会に馴染めず、自分の居場所を探して入出所を繰り返してしまう高齢者たちがいます。この番組では、受刑したことがスティグマとなって社会復帰を拒んでいること、孤独孤立が世代を問わず日本社会に蔓延する社会課題になっているということが描かれています。

We are honored to be featured in a report by Channel 4, the UK’s public service broadcaster. 🇬🇧
The documentary sheds light on a poignant reality in Japan: elderly individuals who, despite having served their time, struggle to reintegrate into society and find themselves trapped in a cycle of re-offending. It explores how the stigma of a criminal record acts as a barrier to a new life, and how loneliness and social isolation have become pervasive issues across all generations in Japanese society.
The footage includes our monthly food distribution organized by YUI Associates Inc., as well as an interview with Mr. Fujisawa. He now works as a cleaner at our lodging facility, Shiho, and shares his journey of finally finding a place where he truly belongs.

ごはん配りは大切なコミュニケーションの時間です💞
Mobile food outreach is a precious time for communication.

私達のごはん配りは日時非公開です。実際に野宿をしている人のところまで行き、ごはんを配ります。
We do not disclose the dates and times of our food outreach. We go directly to where people are living on the streets to deliver meals.

そのために、他の炊き出しに比べて多くは配ることはできず、90食程度の提供をすることになります。
Because of this approach, we can’t distribute as many meals as larger food distribusions. We provide about 90 meals each time.

しかし、その代わりに栄養にこだわったカレーを提供しています🍛
Instead, we focus on providing highly nutritious curry.

コロナ禍の緊急事態条項では、炊き出しも中止になりました。しかし、私達から配りに行くならクラスター感染は起こりにくいと考えて活動を始めたことがきっかけです😷
Our mission began during the pandemic. While traditional food distributions were suspended during the COVID-19 State of Emergency, we realized that by going out to where people are, we could provide support safely without creating large crowds.
