🪷 Many adoptees become incredibly skilled at fitting in. It can look like people-pleasing, perfectionism, staying quiet, or becoming whoever feels safest in the moment.
🪷 Those adaptations often make sense. They may have helped us maintain connection when connection felt uncertain.
🪷 But fitting in and belonging are not the same.
🪷 Belonging isn’t something you achieve by becoming more acceptable. It’s something you experience when you no longer have to hide parts of yourself to stay connected.
