IMPORTANCE OF HEALTH RECORDS
Health records and system is very important in every one’s life. Its process normally begins very early in life while a person is still in the mother’s womb. At this stage, pregnancy information is normally filled by the parents inside the clinic card. This information is very important to the person’s life and it should be done with utmost seriousness. And this is why both the expectant parents should attend during the first clinic session of the pregnancy.
The information collected during the first clinic visit includes the parents’ names, age, address and medical conditions of the parents and their family members among other information. The medical conditions information are normally asked so as to avoid or be prepared in advance for the baby’s health during and after birth. For there are a lot of genetic disorders which can be detected or anticipated during this process for example albinism, sickle cell anemia, and if the possibility of the couple having twins or triplet babies.
Another vital bit is the parents details recorded in the clinic card. This details are normally used during the processing of the person’s birth certificate. In case of omission of the fathers details in the clinic card and in the birth record at the maternity, in Kenya the person’s birth certificate will not include the father’s names or sir name. And this can be redone by both the parents visiting the ministry of interior, registration offices with original and copies of national Identification cards, the birth certificate to be corrected, the parents’ marriage certificate, the clinic card, and the properly filled forms provided by the ministry for the purpose.
And so it is very important to take the process of health systems very seriously to avoid the numerous cases of paternity issues brought to the ministry during the making of the birth certificate. For the birth certificate is used while applying for the schools, national examinations and in the application of the national identity cards and the passports by the citizens.
As it is important for resolving health issues throughout the life of a person. And in knowing the health history of the person.
