🤰🏾 Why Do Some Pregnant Women Feel Like Eating Soil?

Some pregnant women develop a strong craving to eat soil, clay, chalk, ash, ice, or other non-food items. This condition is called Pica.

Common reasons may include:
✅ Low iron levels (anaemia)
✅ Nutrient deficiencies
✅ Hormonal changes during pregnancy
✅ Cultural practices or habits

Although the craving may feel strong, eating soil can be harmful because it may contain:
⚠️ Worms and parasites
⚠️ Harmful chemicals
⚠️ Bacteria and germs
⚠️ Substances that reduce iron absorption

If you are pregnant and craving soil, please speak to your midwife or healthcare provider. A simple blood test can check for iron deficiency and other nutritional needs.

💜 Remember: Cravings are common in pregnancy, but your health and your baby’s health come first.
