A family of four has been wiped out in one of the most heartbreaking tragedies imaginable.
According to reports, the husband allegedly locked the family inside their home, doused the house with a flammable substance, poured it on his wife, their two young children, and himself before setting the house ablaze. Some accounts suggest sulphuric acid may also have been involved, though investigations are ongoing.
The victims were identified as Kamau Kamoko, his wife Phyllis Wambui, and their two young sons, Tallan (6) and Terrence (4).
The family, who lived in Kiganjo, Thika, had reportedly been struggling with persistent domestic disputes. Neighbours said frequent disagreements between the couple had become a source of concern, with many worried about the impact the conflicts were having on the young children.
Residents recall hearing distressing screams and commotion coming from the family's locked house before thick smoke began billowing from the building. Alarmed neighbours rushed to the scene and forced their way inside, only to find the family unconscious and overwhelmed by smoke.
Kamau Kamoko, a plumber originally from Kiarutara in Gatanga, and one of the boys died before help could reach them. Phyllis Wambui, a food vendor from Mwago in Gatanga, and the other child were rushed to hospital in critical condition. Despite desperate efforts by medical personnel, Phyllis later succumbed to her injuries.
In a devastating final update, the surviving son also passed away while receiving treatment, leaving no survivor from the family.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving relatives, friends, and neighbours struggling to comprehend the loss. Many described the family as loving and united in public, making the heartbreaking events even more difficult to understand.
As the community mourns, the incident stands as a painful reminder of the devastating consequences that unresolved domestic conflicts can have on families and innocent children.
May Kamau, Phyllis, Tallan, and Terrence rest in eternal peace. Their memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew them.
