CS Duale Commends KEMSA’s Supply Chain Excellence as Kenya Receives Ebola Preparedness Support from India

Health CS Hon. Aden Duale today received a 5-tonne humanitarian consignment of Ebola preparedness commodities from the Government of India, handed over by H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, India’s High Commissioner to Kenya. During the handover, the Cabinet Secretary commended KEMSA’s efficient supply chain systems and entrusted the Authority with the safe custody and strategic management of the lifesaving commodities.

The consignment, comprising PPE, rapid diagnostic kits, infrared thermometers and other emergency response supplies, will strengthen Kenya’s National Public Health Emergency Strategic Stockpile and enhance national Ebola preparedness. KEMSA remains committed to safeguarding these critical supplies and ensuring they are readily available to support rapid response efforts whenever needed.

KEMSA today hosted a delegation from the U.S. Department of State Office of Inspector General (OIG) for a familiarisation visit to gain deeper insight into the Authority's role in strengthening Kenya's healthcare supply chain and supporting Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Received by CEO Dr. Waqo Ejersa and KEMSA Senior Management, the delegation held discussions on the Authority's transformation agenda before touring the central warehouse to experience first-hand the systems and technologies driving commodity security, procurement excellence, inventory optimisation and nationwide distribution.

The visit showcased how digital innovations—including LMIS, ERP, data analytics and real-time dashboards—are enhancing transparency, operational efficiency and supply chain visibility while ensuring reliable, affordable and accessible quality-assured health products reach patients across Kenya.

Dr. Waqo reaffirmed KEMSA's commitment to building a modern, accountable and high-performing institution that advances health security and delivers better health outcomes for every Kenyan.

Parliamentary Health Committee Undertakes Budget Oversight Visit to KEMSA

The National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Health today visited the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) as part of its Budget Implementation Oversight programme to assess the Authority's contribution to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Led by Committee Chairperson Dr. James Nyikal, the Committee reviewed KEMSA's performance, ongoing reforms and financial sustainability, focusing on the Authority's ability to sustain a resilient, revolving healthcare supply chain.

KEMSA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Waqo Ejersa highlighted organisation-wide reforms to strengthen commodity security, enhance service delivery and customer excellence, and drive institutional transformation.

He noted that the reforms are improving operational efficiency and liquidity, enabling KEMSA to ensure uninterrupted access to quality health products and technologies for Kenyans.
