Day 2 of the IAPB In Sight Live Kenya Conference reinforced a powerful message: eye health is not a privilege, it is a right, and a critical pillar of universal health coverage.

The conference was officially opened by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, setting the tone for bold conversations on strengthening eye health systems and expanding access to quality, affordable care for all.

A key highlight of the day was a presentation by Jackson Smith, Country Director for Liberia, who shared compelling insights on the impact of integrated care on cataract surgical outcomes. His presentation underscored how integrated approaches can significantly improve surgical quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes within eye health programs.

Our booth continued to serve as a hub of engagement, where we welcomed partners and stakeholders for live demonstrations of the GoodVision App. These sessions sparked important dialogue on how digital innovation can strengthen service delivery, improve data use, and enhance decision-making in eye health programming.

Beyond the technical discussions, the day remained anchored in advocacy, reminding us why eye health matters. Every conversation reinforced the urgency of addressing avoidable visual impairment and ensuring that no one is left behind.

As the conference continues, we remain committed to driving partnerships, innovation, and advocacy that place eye health at the center of health systems strengthening.

Two days in Mukurweini Sub-County Hospital, Nyeri County.
Forty cataract surgeries completed. Forty lives brought back into focus.

What may look like a number is, in reality, a series of powerful moments, first light seen after years of darkness, familiar faces becoming clear again, independence quietly restored.

We are grateful to the surgical teams, hospital staff, and partners who made this possible, and to the community for placing their trust in us.

This is what access to eye care looks like: dignity restored, opportunity renewed, and hope brought back into view.

A warm welcome to all delegates, partners, and stakeholders attending IAPB 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE in Nairobi, Kenya, where GoodVision Kenya is honored to serve as a host.

It is a privilege to welcome the global eye health community to Kenya at such a pivotal moment for the sector. This gathering represents more than a conference it is a shared commitment to advancing eye health equity, strengthening systems, and ensuring that quality eye care reaches everyone, everywhere.

GoodVision Kenya’s work continues to demonstrate the transformative power of clear vision across communities. Through outreach programs, partnerships with local health systems, and targeted interventions in underserved areas, we are helping to close the gap in access to essential eye care services.

The impact is visible in real lives: children who can now learn with confidence, adults who are able to return to work and support their families, and elderly persons who regain independence and dignity in their daily routines. Each story reflects a simple but powerful truth when people can see clearly, opportunities expand and potential is unlocked.

As we gather in Nairobi, we are reminded that Africa is not only part of the global eye health conversation, but a driving force in innovation, resilience, and community-centered solutions.

We look forward to meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning throughout the conference.

We also warmly welcome you to visit us at Booth #20 to learn more about our work, connect with our team, and explore opportunities for partnership in advancing eye health.

Together, we can move closer to a future where no one is needlessly affected by poor vision.

Proud to welcome you all, and proud of the work being done by the GoodVision Kenya team as we continue this mission. 🇰🇪

The Good Vision team, led by Country Director Benson Ngure, paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Governor H.E. Christine Kilalo, followed by an inspection tour of the tele-refraction unit at Mwatate Subcounty Hospital. Also in attendance were Head of Optics Diana Langat and Business Development Manager James Mwangi.

The rollout of the tele-refraction unit has expanded access to affordable, specialized eye care services for residents of Mwatate. Early outcomes indicate improved detection and management of common eye conditions, including cataracts, and a reduction in preventable visual impairment.

Speaking during the visit, Deputy Governor H.E. Christine Kilalo, who also serves as CEC for Health Services, reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships that advance equitable access to quality healthcare.

“Under the leadership of H.E. the Governor, we reaffirm our commitment to partner with Good Vision to further strengthen access to quality and inclusive health services across the region,” she stated.

Country Director Benson Ngure noted that the partnership has facilitated the delivery of essential eye care services, including screenings and provision of prescription glasses, thereby reducing barriers to access and minimizing the need for patients to seek care outside the county.

This initiative represents a significant step toward advancing inclusive, accessible, and sustainable eye health services for all.

Did you know your eyes can reveal signs of high blood pressure?

Before we even begin your eye examination at our camps, we first check your blood pressure because the health of your eyes is closely linked to the health of your blood vessels.

High blood pressure can quietly damage the tiny vessels in your eyes, leading to a condition called hypertensive retinopathy. The concerning part? It often has no symptoms in the early stages.

A simple blood pressure check can help detect risks early, protect your vision, and even prevent serious health complications.

So the next time you visit our eye camp and we start with a blood pressure check, know that it’s not just a step it’s part of caring for your overall health.

Your eyes can tell a bigger story. We’re here to help you read it.

At Gitunduti Primary School, Mugutu, Mathira Constituency in Nyeri County, our eye camp was more than just a medical outreach it was a reminder of why we go where others rarely do.

In many interior parts of Kenya, access to optical services remains limited or completely out of reach. For many, clear vision is not a given, it’s a luxury. We met two women whose daily lives had quietly been limited by their vision.

One struggled to read anything on her phone, bible messages, numbers, even simple texts had become a strain. The other had slowly stopped stepping out of her home because the sunlight was too harsh on her eyes, making it uncomfortable to move around during the day or go to the farm.

These are the realities many people face in interior communities, where access to optical care is limited or often overlooked.

During our eye camp, both women received the care they needed. With the right support, reading glasses for one, and protective eyewear for the other their confidence began to return. In that moment, something as simple as using a phone or stepping outside became possible again.

This is why GoodVision Kenya continues to go where the need is greatest bringing eye care closer to communities that are often left behind.

Because clear vision isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.
One story, one person, one community at a time.
