WELLNESS WEDNESDAY | Say This, Not That

“Why can’t you be more like your brother?”

We may say it hoping to motivate a child, but comparison doesn’t always inspire improvement. It can leave a child wondering, “What’s wrong with me?”

Every child comes with different strengths, challenges, personalities and ways of learning. The goal isn’t to make one child more like another.

Try:

“You don’t have to be like anyone else. Let’s work on what you can do better.”

We can correct. We can challenge. We can expect more. But we can do all of that without making another child the standard.

Better words lead to better connection, which leads to better relationships.

💬 Did being compared to a sibling motivate you growing up—or did it have the opposite effect?

Two for Tuesday!

THRIVE makes us HAPPY! Genuinely.

There’s something special about watching an idea become a programme, a learning experience, and now a growing community of children, families and educators.

We get to teach. We get to create. We get to celebrate progress. We get to watch children discover “I CAN!”

And apparently… it makes us throw our hands in the air too! 😂💛

This is THRIVE and yes, we LOVE what we do!

🌟 IT’S OFFICIAL — OUR THRIVE STAR!

He read it. We talked about it and most importantly… he signed it himself. ✍🏾

As we continue testing and refining the THRIVE learning books, Amari gets an important job: experience THRIVE as a child would. He’ll explore the activities, try, learn, play and help us see what works through a child’s eyes.

THRIVE is still a work in progress, and that’s exactly why this part matters.

The agreement is signed. Our Star is on board. 🌟

Mind In Motion: A message from Saran Smithen. ❤️

What do people carry after an interaction with you?

Our words, reactions, kindness, and even our energy, can leave something behind.

In this Mind in Motion, Saran gives us a simple reminder:

What you give, they carry.

What are you adding to someone else's cup?

Back in May of this year, our own Dr. Kerdis Clarke was featured at the LOUD26 Regional Human Resource Conference, exploring neurodiversity in the workplace.

That conversation stayed with us.

We speak quite a bit about neurodivergence in childhood — the child in the classroom, the child who struggles socially, the child whose behaviour may look a little different.

But children grow up. They become spouses, parents, employees, professionals, friends and partners. And adulthood brings its own expectations, relationships, responsibilities and challenges.

For some neurodivergent adults, those differences may go unnoticed for years.

That side of the conversation is not spoken about enough.

That reflection eventually led to Becoming Andrew.

A narrated memoir series centred on one Caribbean man looking back at his life, his experiences, and the things he understands differently now.

Today, we invite you to meet him.

Welcome to Becoming Andrew.
His life. His memories. In his own words.

WELLNESS WEDNESDAY | Say This, Not That

“How many times do I have to tell you?”

Parents, we’ve probably said it. 😅 Especially when it feels like we’ve explained the same thing over and over again.

But children don’t always need another reminder of what they got wrong. They may need help figuring out what to do differently.

Try:

“Let’s try it again. What can you do differently this time?”

It still holds the child accountable, but it also invites them to think, problem-solve and try again.

The goal isn’t to remove correction. It’s to correct in a way that teaches.

Better words lead to better connection, which leads to better relationships.

💬 Parents, what phrase did you hear growing up that you’re trying to say differently with your own children?

🌟 MEET AMARI — OUR THRIVE STAR! 🌟

THRIVE is still being developed, tested and refined and we thought, who better to help us along the way than one of the children for whom it was created?

Meet sweet, sweet Amari, our very first THRIVE Star!

Amari will be exploring the activities, trying things out and helping us see THRIVE through a child's eyes as we continue preparing the books for their official release.

So you'll be seeing a little more of this face around here. 😊

Meet our THRIVE Star.
Watch him THRIVE. 🌟
