The patient in Saigon suffered a 5-year degenerative knee joint, and the doctor injected the stem cells from abdominal fat to treat joint pain on August 15.
This is the first case that An Sinh Hospital uses automatic stem cell isolation method, which only takes 75 minutes while the old technique takes 4 hours, said Dr. Mai Van Dien, director of the hospital. Besides injecting into the knee, the 58-year-old patient was also injected with stem cells into the facial area to blur wrinkles, infusing intravenous stem cells to repair the damage of internal organs, helping to rejuvenate the body.
"The new system helps isolate more stem cells, shorter time so patients do not wait long, fully automatic treatment in the closed cycle avoids infection," said Dr Dien.
Previously, the hospital was isolated by manual procedure, separating fat by Australian kit, then centrifuged to use stem cells, take more time, the number of stem cells is not much, the risk of infection coincide. Currently the new system also separates pure fat cells and fatty oils for cosmetic applications. The hospital is testing and evaluating results in some patients, is expected to officially treat at the end of the year.
Adipose tissue is an abundant source of stem cells, due to fat distribution throughout the body. The collection of adipose tissue is made easy, negligible encroachment, usually taken in the lower abdomen, can be used directly after collection without the need for a proliferative culture. Stem cells from adipose tissue have a strong, stable and stable growth ability and maintain a higher differentiation potential than from bone marrow.
Stem cells from adipose tissue are best taken in people under 50 years old. Currently, some pregnant women undergo caesarean section, get fat from their doctors, separate stem cells and store them in the stem cell bank for convenient use when needed.
The technique of using stem cells to treat osteoarthritis is now available in the technical list of the Ministry of Health. Some clinics are testing to use stem cells to treat a number of diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary, spinal cord injury, and hard-healing ulcers ... In addition to adipose tissue, stem cells are now isolated and growth from umbilical cord is also tested by some hospitals to treat some diseases such as diabetes, autoimmune diseases.
