⭐ Cayman Calm: Starfish Breathing ⭐

Start at the top.
Trace each point slowly.

⬆️ Inhale for 4 seconds
⏸ Hold for 2–4 seconds
⬇️ Exhale for 6 seconds
⏸ Hold for 2 seconds

Move around all five points of the starfish.

🌊 Why this works:
Slow, paced breathing (around 4–6 breaths per minute) activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the body’s natural calming response. Research shows that extended exhales help lower heart rate, reduce stress hormones, and improve emotional regulation and focus.

Adding the tracing motion provides sensory grounding and structure, especially supportive for children and anxious learners.

Simple. Visual. Regulating.
Inspired by Starfish Point. 🇰🇾

Save this for your calm corner, classroom, or home toolkit.

Welcome to the CayCalm Kids Summer Bingo! A playful way for children to explore their senses, build emotional awareness, and connect with the island around them. Each activity supports self-regulation, imagination, and kindness, all while encouraging connection to nature.

You can complete the activities in any order. They’re designed to be inclusive, low-pressure, and fun for all ages and abilities.

🐚 Go on a Seashell Hunt
Supports: Focus, tactile awareness, calming through gentle movement.
Tip: Let kids collect 3–5 shells and describe how each one feels or looks.

🇰🇾Be CaymanKind
Supports: Social-emotional learning, empathy, and confidence.
Tip: Encourage small, everyday acts of kindness: helping someone, sharing, or offering a compliment.

🏝️Messages in the Sand
Supports: Expressive language, emotional expression, and sensory grounding.
Tip: Invite children to write kind words of affirmation or a message of encouragement for someone else to find.

🥭Try a New Island Fruit
Supports: Sensory exploration through taste and smell.
Tip: Let kids describe the fruit’s flavor, texture, or color. This builds food curiosity without pressure.

⭐ Do Five Starfish Stretches
Supports: Body awareness, breath control, and self-regulation.
Tip: As they stretch, pair each movement with a deep breath in and out. It’s a great reset activity.

🌞Nature Self-Portrait
Supports: Creative expression, sensory play, and identity exploration.
Tip: Let kids use shells, rocks, sand, or leaves to make a face or different emotions.

📸 Beach Selfie
Supports: Positive self-image, memory-making.
Tip: Encourage kids to choose their favorite beach spot or take a silly picture to remember the moment.

🗺️ Make a Treasure Map
Supports: Imagination, planning skills, creative storytelling.
Tip: Invite your child to draw or build a simple treasure map using beach landmarks or found objects. It can be real or make-believe! This encourages creativity and spatial awareness while offering a calm, focused task.

🏰 Build a Sandcastle
Supports: Fine motor skills, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Tip: Whether it’s a full castle or a simple pile, the goal is creative play and connection to the earth.

💡 Caregiver Tips:
•Follow your child’s lead. If an activity doesn’t feel right that day, skip it or adapt it.
•Use the five senses as conversation starters: “What do you hear? Smell? Feel?”
•Reinforce emotional language gently: “How did that activity make your body feel?”
•Celebrate effort, not outcome. There’s no “right” way to complete any square.
•Share the moment! Snap a photo, draw it, or talk about your favorite part of the day.
