Blood cancer is cancer that starts in blood cells, bone marrow, or the lymphatic system, causing the body to produce abnormal blood cells that crowd out healthy ones.

Three main types:
Leukemia — cancer of the bone marrow and blood; too many abnormal white blood cells are made.

Lymphoma — cancer of the lymphatic system (lymph nodes, spleen); affects white blood cells called lymphocytes.

Myeloma — cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow, which normally make antibodies.

Typical symptoms:

Fatigue, weakness
Frequent infections
Easy bruising or bleeding
Unexplained weight loss
Swollen lymph nodes
Bone pain (more common with myeloma)

These cancers vary widely in severity and pace — some are slow-growing and monitored for years, others require immediate treatment.

Options include chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and stem cell transplants.
