One blood donation can make a life-saving difference.

Across Africa, safe blood is essential for mothers during childbirth, children with severe anaemia, trauma victims, surgical patients and many others in need of urgent care.

As we mark this Sunday, we celebrate the heroes who give blood and save lives.

To support the United Nations in Lesotho World Environment Day challenge, WHO Lesotho staff stepped up with an office cleanโ€‘up initiative aimed at promoting responsible waste management.
Teams sorted through the office storeroom and library, identifying waste such as paper, plastics, and outdated equipment. Materials were carefully separated, with recyclables like paper, cardboard, and electronics grouped for proper processing.

Unused items were also set aside for reuse, donation, or repurposingโ€”helping conserve resources and reduce the demand for new production.

This initiative highlights how simple, local actions can make a real impact. By sorting waste into recyclable and nonโ€‘recyclable categories, the team demonstrated that proper waste management reduces landfill pollution and supports a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
