Honored to represent Morocco once again on the international stage at the ASRS Annual Meeting 2026 in the beautiful city of Montreal.

I had the privilege to participate with two podiums in différents sessions : surgery around the globe and Circus of complications, alongside a paper on ILM Peeling in PVR and many more.

A memorable highlight was the honor of holding the Reiss Buckler Trophy as co-author for the Best Surgical Film alongside my dear friend Jayant Kumar

Many thanks to the outstanding organizing committee for their kind invitation: Aleksandra Rachitskaya , Geoffrey Emerson and Nina Berrocal and all the board.

It was also a great pleasure to reconnect with friends from around the world.

من أجمل لحظات المؤتمر كان شرف حمل كأس Reiss Buckler لأفضل فيلم جراحي إلى جانب صديقي العزيز الدكتور جايانت كومار.

🤝 أسبوع رائع جمع بين العلم، وأحدث التقنيات الجراحية، واللقاء بالأصدقاء من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

What a huge Honor to have been invited to deliver a lecture on PVR surgery at the Eye Unit, University of Padova, Italy.

My sincere thanks to my friend Professor Lorenzo Motta for his kind invitation and warm welcome.

A meaningful moment for our region: a vitreoretinal surgeon from Southern Morocco, , invited to lecture at an Italian university is a true source of pride motivation and the beginning of A north-South Mediterranean collaboration in

It was also a pleasure to share this academic moment alongside Joeri de Hoog from Amsterdam.

Très honoré d’avoir été invité à présenter une conférence sur la chirurgie de la PVR à l’Eye Unit de l’Université de Padova, en Italie.

Mes sincères remerciements à mon ami Prof. Lorenzo Motta pour son aimable invitation et son accueil.

Un moment symbolique pour notre région : voir un chirurgien vitréorétinien du Sud marocain, d’Agadir, invité à donner une conférence dans une université italienne est une grande fierté et une motivation supplémentaire.

Un réel plaisir également d’avoir partagé ce moment académique aux côtés de Joeri de Hoog d’Amsterdam.

تشرفت كثيراً بدعوتي لإلقاء محاضرة حول جراحة اعتلال الشبكية والجسم الزجاجي التكاثري PVR في وحدة طب العيون بجامعة بادوفا في إيطاليا.

كل الشكر والتقدير لصديقي البروفيسور لورينزو موتا على دعوته الكريمة وحسن الاستقبال.

إنها لحظة ذات رمزية خاصة لمنطقتنا، أن يُدعى جراح شبكية من جنوب المغرب، من مدينة أكادير لإلقاء محاضرة في جامعة إيطالية عريقة.

Honored to have taken part in the Annecy Retina Meeting, in the beautiful setting of Lake Annecy, at the wonderful Les Pensières Foundation.

It was a truly special and exclusive format, bringing together European and worldwide retina surgeons for open discussions, controversies, debates, and real scientific exchange.

The scientific level was outstanding, the social moments were memorable, and it was great to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

Warm congratulations and many thanks to Dr. Caputo and DORC for putting together such a high-level and inspiring meeting.

Always great to represent Morocco 🇲🇦 on the international stage.

What an incredible honor to have take mn part in the 2026 Retina World Congress in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 🇺🇸

I have had the privilege of sharing the stage with an outstanding worldwide faculty, discovering the latest research in retina, and exchanging with some of the best vitreoretinal surgeons from around the globe.

It was also a very special moment for me to be the first Moroccan 🇲🇦 to participate in this congress with a dedicated podium presentation in the PVR session, alongside world-class VR surgeons.

I would like to sincerely thank the organizing committee for their kind invitation, and especially my dear friend Nassim for his support and friendship.

Proud, grateful, and deeply honored.

Très honoré d’avoir participé au 5ᵉ Congrès de la Société Marocaine de Rétine — SMVR, avec une conférence sur un sujet qui me tient particulièrement à cœur : l’indentation sclérale assistée par chandelier.

Une technique — ou plutôt un véritable art chirurgical — parfois méconnue aujourd’hui, mais qui garde toute sa place dans la prise en charge du décollement de rétine du sujet jeune myope, avec d’excellents résultats anatomiques et fonctionnels lorsqu’elle est bien indiquée et maîtrisée.

Mes sincères remerciements au bureau de la SMVR pour cette aimable invitation, et toutes mes félicitations pour l’excellente organisation de cet événement scientifique phare.

Toujours un immense plaisir de retrouver les amis et collègues du Maroc, ainsi que nos invités internationaux, autour de la passion commune pour la rétine.



تشرفت كثيرًا بالمشاركة في المؤتمر الخامس للجمعية المغربية لأمراض وجراحة الشبكية والجسم الزجاجي — SMVR، من خلال محاضرة حول موضوع يلامسني شخصيًا ويهمني كثيرًا: تقنية تطويق الصلبة بمساعدة الإضاءة الداخلية Chandelier-assisted scleral buckling.

هذه التقنية — أو بالأحرى هذا الفن الجراحي — أصبحت اليوم أقل تداولًا مما تستحق، رغم أنها ما زالت تحتفظ بمكانة مهمة في علاج انفصال الشبكية لدى المرضى الشباب، خصوصًا المصابين بقصر النظر، مع نتائج تشريحية ووظيفية ممتازة عندما تُستعمل في الحالات المناسبة وبيد خبيرة.

أتقدم بجزيل الشكر إلى مكتب الجمعية المغربية للشبكية والجسم الزجاجي على هذه الدعوة الكريمة، وأتوجه لهم بأصدق التهاني على التنظيم المتميز لهذا الحدث العلمي البارز.

وكالعادة، كان من دواعي السرور لقاء الأصدقاء والزملاء من المغرب، إلى جانب الضيوف الدوليين، في أجواء علمية راقية تجمعنا فيها الشغف المشترك بجراحة الشبكية.

Chirurgie de la Membrane épimaculaire :

La membrane épimaculaire est une fine couche qui se forme à la surface de la rétine, au niveau de la macula, la zone centrale de la vision.

Avec le temps, cette membrane peut se contracter et froisser la macula, entraînant une vision déformée.

Les signes les plus fréquents :
• Vision floue au centre
• Lignes droites qui paraissent ondulées
• Difficulté à lire ou reconnaître les visages
• Gêne pour conduire ou travailler sur écran

Quand opérer ?
Une chirurgie peut être proposée lorsque la membrane entraîne une baisse visuelle gênante, des déformations importantes ou un retentissement sur la vie quotidienne.

L’intervention consiste en une vitrectomie avec pelage délicat de la membrane à la surface de la macula. Dans certains cas, le chirurgien retire aussi une très fine couche appelée limitante interne, afin de réduire le risque de récidive.



الغشاء فوق البقعة: ما الذي ينبغي للمريض معرفته؟

الغشاء فوق البقعة، أو الغشاء فوق الشبكية، هو طبقة رقيقة تتكوّن على سطح الشبكية، وتحديدًا فوق البقعة، وهي المنطقة المسؤولة عن القراءة والرؤية الدقيقة.

مع مرور الوقت، قد ينكمش هذا الغشاء ويشدّ على البقعة، مما يؤدي إلى تشوّه الصورة.

الأعراض المحتملة:
• تشوش في الرؤية المركزية
• ظهور الخطوط المستقيمة وكأنها متموجة أو منحنية
• صعوبة في القراءة أو التعرّف على الوجوه
• صعوبة في القيادة أو استعمال الهاتف والحاسوب

ُجرى العملية غالبًا بواسطة استئصال الجسم الزجاجي، ثم تقشير الغشاء بدقة من سطح البقعة. وفي بعض الحالات، قد يتم أيضًا تقشير طبقة رقيقة جدًا تُسمى الغشاء المحدِّد الداخلي، وذلك لتقليل احتمال عودة الغشاء.

بعد العملية:
يكون التحسن تدريجيًا، على مدى أسابيع إلى أشهر. والهدف الأساسي هو تقليل تشوه الصورة، ومع الوقت قد تتحسن حدة البصر حسب حالة الشبكية قبل الجراحة.

This year’s 20th anniversary meeting of the Moroccan Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (SAMIR) was a an outstanding edition, bringing together world-leading experts and featuring excellent presentations from both junior and senior colleagues, along with a wonderful social program.

I had the honor of moderating the session on cataract complications, as well as delivering two presentations: one during the Eye Crash session and another during the Phakic IOL session.

My sincere gratitude goes to Dr. , the entire SAMIR Board, Prof. .belmekki , Prof. , and all those involved for their kind invitation and for organizing such an iconic meeting to mark this important 20th anniversary.

Dans la continuité des événements scientifiques organisés par l’Association des Ophtalmologistes de la Région Sud, nous avons eu le plaisir et l’honneur d’accueillir notre confrère et ami Dr , venu de Rabat, expert international en chirurgie réfractive qui a partagé son expérience sur la prise en charge de la chirurgie réfractive de la myopie lors d’une soirée scientifique dédiée aux différents aspects de cette pathologie.

J’ai également eu le grand plaisir de présenter une conférence consacrée à la chirurgie des décollements de rétine chez le myope, suivie d’échanges riches dans une atmosphère conviviale et chaleureuse.

Enfin, les laboratoires HOYA ont contribué à leur tour en présentant leur technologie frénatrice de la Myopie.

Un moment de partage scientifique précieux, au service de l’excellence en ophtalmologie, dans une ambiance ramadanesque confraternelle.
