It's hard to believe its already been a year since the earthquake, to us and to many others it feels just like last week. The crisis and devastation are still present to this day, many lost loved ones, homes and hope, volunteers who helped with recovery, search and rescue live with what they saw and that trauma daily, some who were trapped were stuck for days next to deceased bodies.
The recovery teams were pulling dead bodies out so often finding places to put them became hard, treatment units for injuries was so overwhelmed people were left without basic aid for days, leaving them vulnerable to the elements, and then the rain came. All while this was occurring, as teams desperately tried to treat, recover and rescue victims the junta continued attacks and blocked aid to those in need.
The utter devestation from the quake has left a scar on many. We are still building shelters for those displaced, we are still searching for missing persons to this day.

There are still many who are in extremely vulnerable situations after the quake, many unable to afford new accommodation, many with life changing injuries, some left permanently disabled, many unable to get frequent access to food and basic support.
Do not forget those who are still suffering here on the ground.

The junta continue their extensive and brutal attacks, their constant attacks have destroyed villages and even some of our water and medical units, but no matter how much they destroy we will not stop helping we will not stop rebuilding. No matter how tired and how difficult it is we will not fail those in need.

In many cases we respond during active attacks, but we are also the ones which stay behind to provide longer term support. This means building shelters, teaching and building WASH facilities.

If you want to join us at Skills For Humanity-SFH heres a little about us - We provide food, shelter, medical aid, evacuations, education, safe passage (destruction of landmines and removal of uxo) evacuations, rebuild/build centres and homes, we are the emergency response for many people, and the ones who stay behind during active attacks to ensure civilians are out safe, and offer longer term solutions after attacks.

5 years ago the Myanmar military staged a coup, after losing in a landslide in a democratic election, on the day of voting thousands of myanmar citizens happily posted their finger showing they had casted their vote, many of which for the first time, elderly, young, any and all ethnicities, they all casted their vote. Only for it to be snatched away by the junta on February 1st.

Quickly protests erupted to peacefully fight the injustice and stand up for democracy. Then the junta became even more violent, killing and detaining civilians left right and centre.
Before the coup the military killed and harmed civilians in conflict, but 5 years ago they began to gun down teenagers and students in the streets for the world to see their brutality. They had nothing left to hide so they became more brutal. For 5 years we have seen corpses after corpses, burned body after burned body, children clinging and crying while holding on to their deceased parents after airstrikes, mother's crying and handing us their deceased infants, we've seen the weaponised starvation and weaponised gbv/rape, we've helped on every frontline, destroyed countless landmines and uxo, tried to feed as many as possible, fought for the release of detainees, and built aid centres from the ground up. But it is not enough.
The junta has not just ripped away lives, tortured and detained, it has killed futures of countless citizens. It has taken so much from people and right now so many are in need and so many are suffering because of them.

What can be said is, despite the ruthlessness they face every single day, so many ERO/EAOs, CDMers, PDFs average citizens fight every day, from protest to fighting on the front, to carrying on through the day. The strength is immeasurable.
This isn't an anniversary, this is one year closer to victory and freedom.

The sham elections will happen soon, it is imperative that the international community remembers that this is a faux claw for legitimacy, my teams and I have already seen more mass detainment, further burnings of villages and attacks on civilians, threats against any who will protest, violence is imminent, the junta only knows how to use brutality.
The international communitys response so far to the crisis in has been disappointing to say the least, America's response lifting sanctions and stating the elections are a step in the right direction is tone deaf and shows a complete lack of understanding of the situation, the EUs lack of humanitarian action has been detrimental leaving csos on ground with little funding and left to pick up the pieces and trying to reach thousands if not millions.
Over half the country is suffering from food insecurity, over 3.5million people are displaced, the junta is detaining children as young as 10yrs old, destroying and halting aid to civilians, targeting medical workers, beating civilians, burning buildings and people, how are these war crimes defensible.

There is increased junta presence around most cities, please be aware that if you are going to protest and you need protection, medical aid, emergency aid/evacuations message us

A Update From Myanmar: Why We Have Been Silent
For those who follow my work and the work of Skills For Humanity (SFH), many have noticed our absence online. Over recent months, a key members was detained, many of us suffered injuries while operating in conflict zones. Going low-profile was essential for everyone’s safety while we continued our missions across some of the most dangerous areas in
During this time, conditions on the ground have grown far worse. The junta is escalating , taking back ground previously held by PDFs and EAOs, planting new littering , burning villages, detaining civilians, and torturing detainees as the sham approach. workers, medics, and continue to be targeted, and access to medical supplies is almost nonexistent.
My small team and I have been conducting and operations with extremely limited tools. we mainly see M14 anti-personnel mines which we clear and other explosive remnants to allow safe passage for , medical support, and food distribution.
The humanitarian toll is staggering. We are seeing severe among infants and children, especially in Arakan where one in three children is malnourished. At the same time, conflict injuries have increased. Many of the cases we respond to involve children and civilians critically wounded by airstrikes, attacks and burnings.
In the absence of functioning , we have been forced to perform field surgeries, stabilisation, and even deliver babies in rural IDP camps using the minimal equipment we have. Every day is a battle against preventable deaths.
We recently aided a large number of detainees escape across . The testimonies they share are horrific. torture. starvation. Some were only thirteen years old. Their will require long-term care and protection.
Right now, we are urgently raising funds to continue providing:
• Emergency shelters for families displaced by conflict, fires, floods, UXO and the
• Food and nutritional support for children and infants
• supplies, blood, antibiotics, and basic trauma care items
• Safe pathways and transportation for detainees and extremely vulnerable individuals
• care, emergency births and stabilisation support in rural camps
If you or your organisation can assist with donations, medical supplies, partnerships or outreach, please contact me directly or connect with Skills For Humanity, or our registered partner Better Burma / Insight Myanmar (501c3) for secure and documented contributions.
Myanmar is facing one of the world’s least recognised but most severe humanitarian crises. Your support can save lives.
