Another heatwave is coming! If you are feeling it hard to hydrate here are some good advice to spice up the water

Luckily, adding fruits, herbs, and veggies can make hydration more enjoyable while adding a burst of natural flavour!

Fruits add natural sweetness and a refreshing taste to water. Try:

* Citrus slices (lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit) for a zesty boost.
* Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) for a touch of sweetness.
* Watermelon or pineapple for a tropical vibe.
* Apple slices with a cinnamon stick for a fall-inspired flavour.

Fresh herbs bring a cool and aromatic touch to your drink. Some favourites include:

* Mint – Classic and refreshing, pairs well with almost any fruit.
* Basil – Adds a slightly sweet and peppery twist, great with berries or citrus.
* Rosemary or thyme – More earthy flavours that work well with citrus and apple.
* Lavender – Light floral notes that pair beautifully with lemon or berries.

Vegetables can add a crisp, fresh taste while keeping your water ultra-refreshing. Try:

* Cucumber slices – Cooling and hydrating, perfect for a spa-like feel.
* Celery – A mild, crisp flavour that works well with lemon or lime.
* Carrot or beet slices – Add a subtle sweetness and a fun pop of colour.

Mix and match to find your perfect combination, and staying hydrated will never be boring again!

What flavours will you try first?😄

Animal abuse! Stop this NOW!

Animal abuse! Stop this NOW!

A coalition of animal welfare NGOs is calling for an immediate ban on working horses whenever temperatures reach 30°C, arguing that forcing them to work in extreme heat amounts to animal cruelty.

The organisations said horses are only able to properly regulate their body temperature within a “thermoneutral zone” of between 5°C and 25°C, warning that working in hotter conditions can quickly lead to heat stress, anhidrosis, heat stroke and even brain damage.

They stressed that horses can only be effectively cooled through cool water and air movement—conditions they say are largely unavailable on Malta’s roads, where karozzini horses spend hours working.

The NGOs also argued that Malta’s Animal Welfare Department lacks the resources to consistently monitor working conditions, claiming horses continue to suffer during periods of intense heat.

According to the statement, many areas lack adequate shade, while water facilities are described as basic and insufficient to properly cool horses, with no hosing-down stations available.

As Malta experiences another heatwave, the organisations are calling for an immediate ban on horses working in the streets, insisting that if temperatures are too high for people, they are also too high for working animals.

The NGOs also renewed calls to replace horse-drawn karozzini with tuk-tuks, saying drivers could keep their jobs while horses are retired humanely, rehomed or used for pet therapy rather than continuing to work in extreme temperatures.

They said the issue has been raised repeatedly since before 2020 and are urging authorities to take immediate action.

What do you make of this issue?

A groundbreaking Swedish study that tracked people for nearly 50 years has revealed when the body’s physical decline quietly begins. Researchers found that fitness, strength, and muscle endurance start slipping around age 35, with the decline accelerating over time. But there’s an encouraging twist: adults who became active later in life still improved their physical performance by up to 10 percent.
