🌟 Blood Donation Drive: Vibrant, Caring, and Disciplined 🌟

~A. Purmanund

A blood donation day is always a lively and inspiring event — full of energy, compassion, and the joy of saving lives. But alongside this vibrant spirit, discipline and respect are essential to ensure the safety and comfort of every donor.

🩸 Blood Donation Drive: Joyful but Disciplined
While the National Blood Transfusion Service (Blood Bank) welcomes everyone’s compassion and cooperation, it’s important to remember that coordination does not mean control.
The organizer or person assisting Blood Bank does not have an upper hand — Blood Bank team remains responsible for ensuring safety, discipline, and confidentiality throughout the drive.

🩸 Curiosity is welcome, but silence matters
At college, it’s normal for students to come out of curiosity. However, once they’ve seen the process, they should leave promptly to avoid crowding. Donors need a calm environment — light background music is encouraged, but not everyone talking at once.

🩸 Confidentiality is non‑negotiable
Even among friends, privacy must be respected. Donor evaluation and HB testing are confidential moments. Students should not gather in groups during these steps.

🩸 Support, not crowding
A friend may accompany a donor who feels nervous — but several students or groups should not surround the donor. Comfort comes from quiet support, not from a crowd.

🩸 Controlled space
When Blood Bank (NBTS) organizes a drive, it has the right to ensure the space is managed responsibly. This guarantees safety, order, and a positive experience for all.

🩸 Photos with respect
Taking photos is welcome, but always ask the donor’s and Blood Bank Staff's permission before posting on social media. Never take pictures of a donor who is unwell or resting on a reclining couch. Respect and dignity come first.

💖 Together, let’s make the blood donation drive both joyful and disciplined — a space where donors feel valued, safe, and proud to give the gift of life.

❤️🌹A Stranger’s Heartbeat 🩸❤️
Every single day across Mauritius, ordinary people do something completely quiet, yet entirely miraculous.

They don’t get a medal. They don't make the news. They simply walk into a room or in our caravan, sit in a chair/couch, and quietly give a piece of themselves so that someone they’ve never met gets to see tomorrow.

They are blood donors. 🇲🇺❤️

Yes, It's YOU.

It’s easy to look around these days and feel heavy. The world can feel vast, complicated, and overwhelming, leaving us asking ourselves: “What can I possibly do to make things better❓”

The answer isn’t complicated. It’s flowing right through your veins.

When you give blood, you aren't just filling a medical blood bag. You are giving someone you don't know a 2nd lease of life.

♥ Because of you, a terrified mother gets to take her child home from the hospital.
♥ Because of you, a grandfather gets to sit at the dinner table and watch his grandkids grow up.
♥ Because of you, someone who survived a terrible accident gets a blank page to start over.

We can talk all day about making our little (Momo - Mauritius) a kinder, better place—or we can actually build it. Every donation is an unmistakable act of love. It’s the ultimate proof that despite our different backgrounds, our communities are bound together by the exact same lifeblood.

"Real change doesn't happen through big impossible speeches. It happens in a quiet room at Blood Bank, with a rolled-up sleeve, through a small act of selflessness that means the entire universe to a family in crisis." (Dr VR Nalaya, PhD, Blood Donor Coordinator, NBTS) Viki-Rao Nalaya

🔴🩸🟢Did You Know❓ Why No hot shower soon after donating blood.
~ Researched, compiled and written:Ashish Purmanund

Blood Donation is SAFE 100%.After donating blood, there are several activities and things you should avoid to ensure a quick recovery and prevent complications like dizziness or fainting. Key precautions include avoiding strenuous physical activity, lifting heavy objects, and consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours and smoking just after donating blood.

Additionally, you SHOULD NOT take a hot bath or shower right away, as the heat can drop your blood pressure.

Taking a hot shower or bath right after donating blood can make your blood vessels get bigger, which lowers your blood pressure and can make you dizzy or even faint.

♦Why Hot Showers Can Be Dangerous:
○ Lower Blood Pressure: When you donate blood, you have less fluid in your body. Heat from a hot shower or bath makes your blood vessels relax more, which can cause your blood pressure to drop too much.
○ Feeling Dizzy or Faint: Your body is still adjusting to the blood loss, so the heat and lower blood volume can easily make you feel lightheaded.
○ Risk of Infection: Soaking the area where you had the needle in a hot bath or hot tub too soon can bring in bacteria and slow down healing.

♦What You Should Do Instead:
○ Wait Before Taking Hot Showers: Avoid hot showers, saunas, or hot baths for at least 6 to 8 hours. Some places recommend waiting 24 hours.
○ Use Cool or Lukewarm Water: After your bandage is off, use cool water instead of hot to keep your body from getting too warm.
○ Drink Lots of Fluids: Drink plenty of water or cool drinks to help your body replace the fluids lost during donation.
