The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture - Malawi , in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) and development partners, has today launched a five-day capacity-building workshop for District Youth Officers in Lilongwe aimed at strengthening youth service delivery and preparing district structures to support the implementation of key government youth development programmes.
Held under the theme “Strengthening Decentralized Youth Service Delivery for Inclusive National Development,” the workshop has brought together District Youth Officers from across Malawi to enhance their capacity to coordinate youth programmes, support youth entrepreneurship, and strengthen the delivery of services at community level.
Opening the workshop, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Alfred Gangata , M.P, described District Youth Officers as critical links between national policy and the young people government programmes are intended to serve. He noted that the training comes at a strategic time as Government begins rolling out the MK100 Million Youth Constituency Fund, a flagship initiative announced by His Excellency President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in the State of the Nation Address.
The Minister said the fund presents a significant opportunity to increase young people's access to economic opportunities, finance, and enterprise development support across all constituencies. He therefore called on participants to use the workshop to strengthen their knowledge and skills so they can effectively guide young people in accessing the fund, developing viable projects, and ensuring responsible use of public resources.
Beyond the Youth Constituency Fund, the workshop is also expected to strengthen coordination of youth programmes at district level, improve implementation of the National Youth Policy, and enhance collaboration among stakeholders working to advance youth development outcomes.
As frontline officers responsible for youth programming in districts, participants are expected to play a leading role in ensuring that government investments in young people translate into tangible improvements in livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and community development
