It was an honour to welcome distinguished faculty and participants from across the region for this landmark educational event.

Rawatan Rekonstruktif Beri Harapan Baharu kepada Pesakit Frostbite ❄️🩺

Kecederaan radang dingin (frostbite) yang teruk tidak lagi semestinya berakhir dengan kehilangan fungsi anggota badan. Melalui kepakaran multidisiplin dan rawatan rekonstruktif yang komprehensif, pesakit kini berpeluang mendapatkan semula fungsi serta kualiti hidup yang lebih baik.

Menurut Prof. Dr. Shalimar Abdullah, Pakar Perunding Ortopedik (Pembedahan Tangan dan Mikrosurgeri), tanda-tanda frostbite lazimnya bermula dengan perubahan fizikal pada hujung anggota badan, disertai rasa tidak selesa yang semakin ketara.

Sementara itu, Dr. Adzim Poh Yuen Wen, Pakar Perunding Bedah Plastik dan Rekonstruktif, menjelaskan bahawa kejayaan rawatan ini membuktikan kecederaan frostbite yang serius boleh dirawat secara berkesan menerusi pendekatan rekonstruktif yang menyeluruh.

Tahniah kepada barisan pakar Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Specialist Centre (UKMSC) dan Fakulti Perubatan UKM atas komitmen berterusan dalam membawa inovasi serta kecemerlangan dalam penjagaan kesihatan.

We are proud to announce that our Hand Unit’s collaborative research on nerve conduits, conducted in partnership with UKM’s Tissue Engineering Centre, was honoured with the prestigious Mahmood Merican Award at the recent MOA 2026.

A memorable and inspiring week at FESSH 2026 in Basel, Switzerland! 🇨🇭

FESSH (Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) is one of the premier international platforms for hand surgeons, therapists, researchers, and industry partners to exchange knowledge, share innovations, and discuss the latest advances in hand and upper limb surgery. This year's congress brought together experts from around the world through outstanding scientific sessions, workshops, and meaningful networking opportunities.

The congress provided valuable new insights into hand surgery, microsurgery, peripheral nerve surgery, trauma, reconstruction, and hand therapy. More importantly, it offered fresh perspectives that will help us continue improving patient care, education, and research in our respective institutions.

A sincere thank you to the organizing committee, speakers, faculty members, and fellow delegates for making FESSH 2026 such a successful and enriching event. Looking forward to applying the knowledge gained and continuing the collaborations and friendships formed during this wonderful congress.

🎉 ESSER Asia Kuala Lumpur 2026 – A Successful Conclusion! 🎉

As ESSER Asia Kuala Lumpur comes to an end, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all faculty members, participants, organizers, sponsors, and supporting staff who contributed to the success of this program.

Over the past few days, participants engaged in interactive lectures, case discussions, and hands-on sessions, creating an excellent platform for learning, knowledge exchange, and professional networking. The enthusiasm and active participation demonstrated throughout the course truly reflected the commitment of our orthopedic community towards continuous improvement and excellence in patient care.

We hope that the knowledge and experience gained during this course will continue to benefit participants in their daily practice and ultimately contribute to better patient outcomes.

Thank you once again to everyone who made this event a remarkable success. We look forward to meeting you again in future ESSER educational activities.

A 15 year old boy came to us after a traumatic hand injury.
He had flexor tendon repairs. After a few months, the skin over the surgical area became very thick and tight.
Because of the contracture, he could barely move all four fingers.

To help him regain function, we performed:

🔹 Contracture release of left 2nd–5th fingers
🔹 Full thickness skin grafts (FTSG) taken from groin area.

The surgery released the tight scar, and the new skin grafts gave him soft, flexible coverage.
With physiotherapy, he slowly regained movement and function.

A challenging journey but a strong recovery. ✨
