Your liver works quietly in the background, filtering toxins and fighting infection, until hepatitis puts it under strain.
Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection. It can present with symptoms such as fatigue, jaundice, dark urine and abdominal pain, though some people may have no symptoms at all. Left undetected, it can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure or liver cancer.
Dr. Daniel Ching Lee Zhi, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Penang Adventist Hospital, shares more on the types of viral hepatitis, how each can be treated and simple steps we can take to protect ourselves.
Get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B, avoid sharing needles or personal items and get screened if you are at risk. Early detection protects the liver and prevents complications.
If you have any concerns about your liver health, speak to your doctor.
