Your liver works quietly in the background, filtering toxins and fighting infection, until hepatitis puts it under strain.

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection. It can present with symptoms such as fatigue, jaundice, dark urine and abdominal pain, though some people may have no symptoms at all. Left undetected, it can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure or liver cancer.

Dr. Daniel Ching Lee Zhi, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Penang Adventist Hospital, shares more on the types of viral hepatitis, how each can be treated and simple steps we can take to protect ourselves.

Get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B, avoid sharing needles or personal items and get screened if you are at risk. Early detection protects the liver and prevents complications.

If you have any concerns about your liver health, speak to your doctor.

God heals, We help.

Growth begins the moment we stop fighting reality and start working with it, and that is where your strength lies.

Those flaws you notice in yourself are not proof that you have fallen short. They are part of what makes you human, and you can grow through every one of them. Good mental health is never about being happy all the time either. It is about learning to move through every emotion you feel, the hard ones included, and trusting that you have what it takes to come out the other side.

Self-love is where it all comes together. Every time you set a boundary, listen to your inner voice, or choose to treat yourself with respect, you are building a stronger, kinder relationship with yourself.

So be patient and be proud of how far you have come. You are growing every day, and you are more capable than you know.

Penang Adventist Hospital congratulates Dr. Pong Kwai Meng, Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist, who served as a speaker and plenary chairperson at the Asia Pacific Resuscitation Conference (APRC) 2026, held from 10 to 12 July 2026 at St. Giles Wembley, Penang.

His talk, "Empowering the Neonatal Team with Simulation", explored how simulation-based training strengthens teamwork, sharpens clinical skills, and ultimately improves patient outcomes. The conference reflected its theme of global collaboration for better resuscitation, bringing together experts from across the Asia-Pacific region.

For Dr. Pong, one of the most meaningful moments came from reconnecting with a former young patient, now a confident young man and aspiring doctor, who had himself helped save a life through timely CPR. It was a powerful reminder of why resuscitation education matters.

At Penang Adventist Hospital, that same commitment is carried forward through our Life Support Education Centre (LSEC), which runs a full range of life support training programmes for healthcare professionals and the community.

Moments like these reflect our hospital's commitment to promoting whole-person health within the wider community.
