A child assessment is more than just a checklist. 🧠💚

When it comes to understanding a child’s development, the little details matter : their developmental history, everyday experiences, challenges, strengths, and the concerns shared by parents.

So, what should parents expect during a child assessment? And how do clinicians piece together the information to better understand a child’s needs?

In this episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast, we explore the child assessment process and why collaboration between parents and clinicians is so important in helping children get the right support. 🌱

Because every child has a unique story, and understanding that story is where meaningful support begins.

What if a child assessment isn’t about finding out “what’s wrong” with your child?

What if it’s actually about understanding how they think, learn, communicate and experience the world?

As parents, hearing words like assessment, Autism, ADHD or Dyslexia can feel overwhelming. But an assessment can be the beginning of understanding, not a label that defines your child.

So… when is it actually time to consider an assessment? And what happens after that?

🎙️ We unpack this in Episode 2 of The Ripple Effect Podcast: Does my child need an assessment?

▶️ Watch the full episode and join us as we explore what assessment really means for children and families.

Because sometimes, understanding a child changes everything. 💚

What if we changed the questions we ask about our children?

Instead of asking,
❌ “Why is my child struggling?”
❌ “Why can’t they just behave like other children?”

What if we asked:
💭 “How does my child experience the world?”
💭 “How does my child learn best?”
💭 “What support would help them thrive?”

Neurodivergence isn’t simply about identifying what a child can’t do. It’s also about understanding their strengths, needs, differences and potential.

When we change the way we see a child, we can begin to change the way we support them. 💚

🎙️ Hear more about reframing neurodivergence and empowering children in this episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast.

Save this as a reminder: our questions shape the way we see our children.

Is it dyslexia… or are they simply learning at their own pace? 📚

Not every child who struggles with reading, spelling or writing has dyslexia. But when certain difficulties are persistent, consistent, and significantly affect learning, it may be worth looking deeper.

So how can parents tell the difference between a child who is developing at their own pace and a child who may need additional support?

In this episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast, we unpack the signs of dyslexia, what parents should look out for, and why early understanding matters, especially in the Malaysian education context. 🇲🇾

“They’re not paying attention.”
“They’re too distracted.”
“They’re not trying.”

But what if we’re looking at the behaviour without understanding the need behind it?

In our latest episode of The Ripple Effect Podcast, we explore how teachers can rethink learning, recognise neurodivergent strengths, and create classrooms where different ways of learning are supported, not punished. 💚

🌊 The Ripple Effect Podcast is here!

A space for honest, meaningful conversations about neurodiversity, child development and emotional wellbeing - made for parents, educators, caregivers and anyone who wants to understand these topics better!

We’re starting with the foundations: What does it really mean to be neurodivergent, how can we recognise when a child may need support, and how can we move from “What’s wrong?” to “How can I better understand and support this child?”

Because sometimes, one conversation can create a ripple of change.
