Malaysian Doctors, many of us have experienced this:

We refer a patient, but never receive any update.

Sometimes we end up calling the patient ourselves. Sometimes we just let it go.

Recently I started manually helping a few clinics track referral outcomes (e.g. whether patient was seen, follow-up ongoing, etc.) — mainly to understand how big this problem really is.

Still very early stage, but I’m curious:

Would having someone help track referral updates be useful for your practice?

Currently just testing this on a small scale to see if it’s something doctors actually need.

Would appreciate any thoughts or feedback.

Malaysian doctors, imagine a future where referrals no longer end in silence.

🇲🇾 The Referral Black Hole in Malaysian Healthcare

As a doctor in Malaysia, here's a reality many of us face daily:
We refer. The patient disappears. We never hear back.

❌ No feedback on diagnosis accuracy
❌ No clarity on patient outcomes
❌ No continuity of care

This isn't just frustrating. It drives medical inflation. It fragments care. And it leaves us working in the dark.

I've started a grassroots project called Make Every Referral Count to fix this.

有时候，
我觉得自己这份工作最不容易的部分，
不是分析交易行为，
也不是研究市场心理。

而是 听故事。

听很多交易者分享他们的经历——

十赌九输，十赌九诈。
看到一位父亲为孩子偿还赌博债务的新闻，令人心痛。

即使在百忙之中，我仍然坚持去帮助交易者与投机者，
不是为了教他们如何赢钱，
而是希望他们能看清自己、管理情绪，
远离一再重复的失控循环。

输，并不可怕。
可怕的是输完之后，却没有得到任何智慧。

In Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, a 59-year-old waiter known only as “Foo” thought he was just doing what any desperate father would do. Between February and December 2025, he emptied RM68,000 — about USD $16,800 — from his EPF savings to cover his 22-year-old son’s online gambling debts, hoping that once it was settled, life would return to normal.

But it didn’t.

From 27 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, the loan sharks — the ah longs — started calling non-stop, warning of trouble if more money didn’t appear. Then, on 12 and 13 January, their harassment showed up on his doorstep: white and red paint splashed across the front of his family home. His 54-year-old wife, already living with depression, is now struggling even more.

Foo is a father of three. But the youngest — a travelling salesman he believes ran up the debts — has disappeared and stopped answering calls.

On 17 January 2026, Foo stood beside Pasir Pinji assemblyman Goh See Hua and city councillor Lim Chee Aun, asking loan sharks to stop targeting innocent families.

If this was your dad… what would you say to him? And what would you say to the son? 💭

This is exactly the direction mental health support needs to move in.

As a medical doctor and risk behaviour strategist, I strongly believe that early intervention, behavioural pattern detection, and culturally grounded AI are the future of mental health — especially for populations who are reluctant to seek face-to-face help.
