How does Malaysia handles unclaimed bodies?

In Malaysia, when a person passes away and no family member or representative comes forward to claim the body, the authorities follow a formal legal and administrative process.

The deceased is first transferred to a government hospital mortuary where efforts are made to identify the individual through documents, fingerprints, DNA records, police databases, and public notices. Authorities usually provide a waiting period of about 30 days for relatives or friends to claim the body.

If no claimant is found after the required period, the relevant authorities may seek approval to proceed with final arrangements such as cremation or burial. These procedures are carried out respectfully and in accordance with Malaysian laws and public health regulations.
