FIRST TIME EVER AT HIN BUS GALLERY.

Pre Earth Fest X Hin Bus Depot

>>> Seeds of Connection: Seed & Plant Chat, Sharing + Exchange Session

Organised by Project M.A.R.S., supported by The Habitat Foundation

We warmly invite you to a simple and meaningful gathering centered around seeds, plants, food, and our connection with the land. This is a space for sharing stories, exchanging seeds, and learning from one another through lived experience and traditional knowledge.

Special highlight sharing by POP:
>>> “Rice is Life: The Story Behind Our Staple Food”
POP will be sharing his journey as a rice farmer, his relationship with the land, food, and fermentation, and the deeper meaning behind rice as our daily staple. This sharing opens a space to reflect on how food, farming, and culture are deeply connected in our everyday lives.

There will also be a special farmer music performance by POP, sharing sounds and stories rooted in the land.

Bring along your seeds, plants, cuttings, or simply come with an open heart to listen, learn, and connect.

This session is part of Earth Fest x Hin Bus Depot – Week 3: Culture, Land & Everyday Living, where we explore the relationship between people, land, food, seeds, and cultural wisdom through community sharing.

Finally I have some time to lay down and post about this precious moment.
The Food Forest Forum 2026 was truly a whole new level of experience for me , especially having the chance to spend these meaningful 10 days together with our beloved teachers, Jon Jandai and Dongi Kacaw since " Coming Home " at Project M.A.R.S and 3 days with all our partners and friends.

From 24–26 April 2026, the forum gathered passionate farmers, researchers, indigenous leaders, students, and changemakers at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. More than 140 physical participants and 60 online participants came together with one common intention , to explore how we can rebuild local food resilience through ecological restoration and community action.

What touched me most was how the conversations went far beyond farming. We spoke deeply about seed sovereignty, syntropic agriculture, permaculture, agronomics, indigenous wisdom, and how communities can live more connected with nature again. Listening to Orang Asli knowledge keepers sharing about medicinal plants, forest food, seed saving, and traditional practices reminded me that the forest itself has always been a living classroom.

One of the most meaningful parts for me was seeing different organisations and communities coming together with openness and sincerity.

The forum was jointly organised by SEEDS Malaysia, Urban Hijau, Project M.A.R.S., Sarawak CSO-SDG Alliance, and the UTAR Centre for Agriculture and Food Research, with strong support from The Habitat Foundation.

I also felt inspired seeing the proposal for a regenerative agriculture network in Malaysia — a platform to connect regional knowledge, seeds, resources, and people together. This is something truly needed for the future.

The site visits to active food forests were another powerful reminder that restoration is possible. It gave hope that small actions, when done consistently, can slowly heal the land again.

And also, special thanks to our dear good friends who came in to support and volunteer throughout the forum ,Melissa Tan , Xuxan, Boon, and also Kiki. Thank you for agreeing to support us and be part of this meaningful event

Let’s listen to what our teacher shared about Project M.A.R.S. ~

From nothing… really nothing.... just an old abandoned palm oil plantation with no life , no soul ~ and....slowly becoming what it is today, a food forest, a space full of life, and a community that keeps growing. Along the way, we didn’t really know everything, we just try, make mistakes, learn, and continue. That’s how M.A.R.S. is built ~ not by experts, but by people who are willing to experience together.

Project M.A.R.S. for us is not just about farming. It’s about creating a space where people can come, feel safe to try, to learn, to reconnect ~ with nature, and also with themselves. A space where even a small action can slowly become something meaningful.

Really, a lot of this comes from the inspiration of our teacher Jon Jandai, Peggy, and the whole community from Pun Pun Organic Farm ( Self-Reliance Center) . The way you all live, share, and just be ~it influenced us more than words can explain.

We are really, really grateful for all the support along the way. Somehow, M.A.R.S. is also a reflection of all these connections. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
