Penangguhan bukan bermaksud menyerah kalah.

Ia bukan bermaksud anak berhenti belajar.

~Dr Low

A meaningful two days spent with educators who are directly shaping the classroom experience of our children.

Supporting children with special needs should never remain within the clinic alone. When teachers are better equipped with practical understanding and strategies, support can happen earlier, more consistently, and more meaningfully in the place where children spend so much of their daily life.

Grateful to have been part of this workshop in collaboration with the Malaysian Chinese Language Council, and thankful to all the teachers who came with openness to learn, reflect, and grow.

This is how inclusion moves forward — when awareness is translated into practical action in the classroom.

More than a workshop, this is a step towards a more supportive environment for many children and families.

For these children to thrive, awareness must also reach the classroom. It is not only about recognising the signs and needs of a child, but also about equipping educators with practical ways to support learning, manage emotions, and handle classroom challenges more effectively.

I am grateful to be involved in this meaningful effort in collaboration with the Malaysian Chinese Language Council, where we work together to extend understanding and support for children with special needs beyond the clinic and into schools.

I will be involved as one of the trainers for this workshop tomorrow, 24/04/2026. In view of this, the clinic will be closed for one day.

A meaningful step forward for our children, through stronger collaboration between healthcare and education.

After their child reaches 18 months old, many parents get busy juggling work, school, and family life. As a result, some booster doses or additional vaccines may be missed without parents realizing it.

This Immunization Awareness Month, you may send your child’s vaccination record to us for a simple screening.

Please WhatsApp:

* A clear photo of the vaccination record/booklet
* Child’s date of birth
* Child’s current age

We will help check what may be due, missed, or worth discussing, so your child can receive timely protection.

Recently, I saw a 1 year 7 month old child brought in for developmental consultation because the parents noticed 2 worrying changes:

she was no longer responding well when called
her speech had reduced

At first glance, many people may immediately think of autism, especially when a toddler shows reduced response and fewer words.

But the story became clearer after careful history taking.

This change only started about 1 month earlier.
Before that, she could turn to her name, was startled by loud sounds, and had already spoken more than 10 meaningful words.

That is an important clue.

When I entered the room, she noticed me immediately and cried. During the session, she was still able to play with her elder sister, share toys with her parents, and engage with her family. These were not the usual patterns we worry about in autism.

On examination, she had fluid trapped behind both eardrums, and there was a history of repeated ear infections, with the latest episode happening just before the regression began.

In other words, this was not simply a “developmental issue”.
There was a medical reason affecting her hearing, and that can affect speech, response, and communication.

This is exactly why early medical assessment matters.

Sometimes what looks like autism, speech delay, or social communication difficulty may actually be caused or worsened by an underlying medical problem that needs treatment.

If hearing is reduced for too long during an important stage of development, it can eventually affect speech and learning too.

So when parents notice a child is suddenly speaking less, responding less, or seems different from before, please do not just wait and see for too long.

Get the child assessed properly.

Early advice does not mean we are rushing to label a child.
It means we are trying to understand the real cause early, and help the child at the right time.

Not every developmental red flag means neurodivergence.
But every regression deserves attention.

This World Health Day, I’m reminded that child health is never built by one person alone.

It takes timely care, trusted guidance, science-based decisions, and a team working together.

Sharing this video from Signature Child Specialist Clinic as a small reflection of that journey.

“𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐊 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐮𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 – 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐬 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞”

This year’s theme reminds us of something simple yet important — every child matters, and every life has value.

In my daily practice, I meet children with autism who see the world differently,
and parents doing their best to support them.

Beyond awareness, what these children need is a community that recognises their worth —
in our schools, systems, and everyday interactions.

When we embrace inclusion, especially in education, we are not just helping a child cope - we are giving them the dignity to learn and belong.

Because humanity is not about sameness,
but making space for every difference.

~ Dr Low

Awareness starts the conversation.
Inclusion changes lives.

This World Autism Awareness Day 2026, let’s take real steps to support children with Autism at home, in school, and in our community. 💙

30/03/2026

Over the past few weeks, I have been sharing about developmental delay and learning difficulties from different angles.

We spoke about dyslexia.
We spoke about children whose “inattention” may actually reflect autism-related challenges.
We also spoke about the very real logistic difficulties many families face in getting a child to regular intervention.

To round up this series, I am sharing this podcast from the Signature Child Specialist Clinic page.

In this episode, Yuni shares her journey as a mother raising a daughter with ASD.
I will also walk through the step-by-step path many parents go through, from first noticing a difference, to seeking consultation, assessment, intervention, schooling, and available support for children with special needs.

For many families, this journey can feel overwhelming at first.
But parents do not need to have everything figured out from day one.
Very often, it is a step-by-step process, with the right support along the way.

I will also link the 3 earlier posts from this series in the comments.
They were written in Mandarin, but Facebook’s translation feature may help English-speaking readers follow along too.

Thank you for following this sharing series.
I hope it helps more parents recognise concerns earlier, seek help earlier, and build a more understanding community for children with special needs and their families.
