Pregnancy test positive?
Now you may be wondering:
“What will the doctor do during my first pregnancy check-up?”
Many mothers think the first visit is only about ultrasound.
But actually, your first pregnancy visit is more than just a scan.
Doctors usually need to understand:
✅ Your last menstrual period
✅ Pregnancy symptoms
✅ Previous pregnancy history
✅ Miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy history
✅ Fertility treatment history
✅ Medical conditions
✅ Previous operations
✅ Allergies
✅ Medicines, supplements, herbal or traditional medicine
✅ Blood pressure, weight, urine and general health
Depending on how many weeks pregnant you are, your symptoms and your history, the doctor may arrange blood tests or an ultrasound.
But not every first visit includes every test.
And if the pregnancy is still very early, the baby or heartbeat may not be clearly visible yet.
That is why the first visit is not only about asking:
“Can we see the baby?”
The better question is:
“How do we plan a safer pregnancy journey from here?”
But please take note:
If you have heavy bleeding, severe or one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, severe dizziness, or fainting, seek urgent medical care.
