I was recently interviewed by a newspaper following the tragic news of a teenager who fell from Komtar, Penang.
Incidents like this remind us that adolescence is a period of rapid growth, but also a time of increased vulnerability. Teenagers are striving for independence, yet the areas of the brain responsible for impulse control, emotional regulation, and decision making are still developing. During moments of overwhelming stress, intense emotions can affect judgment and make it difficult to see alternative solutions or seek support.
These are important life skills that many young people are not always explicitly taught, but they can be learned, practiced, and strengthened.
临床心理治疗师杨诗涵表示,青少年对自身有一定要求,部分甚至会对自己过于苛刻;若感到彷徨无助,父母暂时无法倾听,可扩大倾诉对象,包括老师或值得信赖的朋友。
