100 calories can look very different depending on what you’re eating.

On one side, you have a generous portion of cucumber, mixed vegetables and garden egg. On the other, 100 calories of peanut paste, nutella and sausage looks like just a few bites.

And that’s where it can get tricky.
You might think, “It’s just a little bit. I’ll just have one bite.” But those little bites of calorie-dense foods can add up quickly without making you feel like you’ve eaten much.

When weight loss is your goal, choosing more filling, nutrient-dense foods can make it easier to manage your overall calorie intake while still enjoying the foods you love.

Sometimes, it’s not about eating less food. It’s about making your food work better for you.

You went for an evening walk, got your steps in, came home feeling accomplished and then built a mountain of eba and soup with barely any protein.
This is why exercise and nutrition have to work together.

Exercise is important. It supports your heart health, fitness, strength, mood and overall wellbeing. But when it comes to weight loss, what you eat also matters because it’s much easier to consume more calories than you burn through exercise.

That doesn’t mean you have to avoid eba or stop enjoying your favorite meals. It means paying attention to portions and building more balanced meals. Add adequate protein, vegetables or fibre, reasonable portions of your carbs and healthy fats where appropriate.

So yes, keep taking those walks. Keep exercising. Just remember that your workout doesn’t give you a free pass to ignore what’s on your plate.

After bariatric a bariatric procedure, learning to recognise your fullness cues is especially important. Eating past comfortable fullness can lead to discomfort, nausea, vomiting and make it harder to build healthy eating habits.

Most health problems don’t start overnight.
Diabetes at 35 may have roots in habits and lifestyle patterns that started years earlier. Obesity at 30 didn’t suddenly appear at 30. The choices we make repeatedly, what we eat, how active we are, how we sleep and how we manage our health can add up over time.

This isn’t about guilt or blaming your younger self. It’s about recognising that small habits can have long-term consequences, but small changes can also make a difference.

You don’t have to wait until a health problem shows up before you start taking your health seriously.
Your future health is being shaped by what you do today.

PMOS is more than just irregular periods.
It can affect different aspects of a woman’s health and may show up through symptoms such as:

- Acne and skin changes
- Strong cravings, especially for junk foods
- Anxiety, mood swings or depression
- Difficulty sleeping
- Headaches and migraines
- Irregular or absent periods
- Excess facial or body hair

Not every woman with PMOS will experience all of these symptoms, and they can vary from person to person.

Did you know weight loss surgery can significantly improve many PMOS-related symptoms?

Reported improvements after bariatric surgery include:

- Irregular/absent menstrual periods: 80–95%
- Anovulation: 80–100%
- Infertility related to anovulation: substantial improvement, with pregnancy rates of 95–100%
- Excess facial or body hair: 55% complete resolution
- Acne: 70% improvement

September is PMOS Awareness Month.
PMOS, formerly known as PCOS, is more than irregular periods. It can affect your hormones, metabolism, fertility, skin and overall health.

The good news is PMOS is manageable. With the right diagnosis, treatment and support, many symptoms and associated health risks can be improved.
If you’ve been experiencing irregular periods, difficulty getting pregnant, unexplained weight changes, excess hair growth or other symptoms, don’t ignore them.

This PMOS Awareness Month, let’s talk about it, raise awareness and encourage more women to seek the right care.

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension is a condition that occurs when the pressure around the brain becomes abnormally high, and one of the most common symptoms is persistent or severe headaches. Some people may also experience symptoms such as blurred or temporary loss of vision, pulsatile ringing in the ears or nausea.

For people with this condition who are overweight or obese, weight loss can play an important role in managing the condition. Some patients who undergo significant weight loss after a weight loss intervention, including bariatric surgery or a gastric balloon, report major improvement in their symptoms, and some may experience remission of the condition.

But please don’t assume every headache is caused by Idiopathic intracranial hypertension, or that weight loss is the answer to every headache.
Persistent or unexplained headaches should always be properly evaluated by a healthcare professional, especially when accompanied by changes in vision or other concerning symptoms.

Sometimes, looking beyond the headache itself can help uncover what’s really going on.
