Today’s Ophthalmic Lens Dispensing class was another deeply practical and engaging session.
We rounded up our discussion on ophthalmic lens materials, including chromatic aberration, Abbe value, thickness, thinness, and how different refractive indices influence lens performance and dispensing decisions.
From there, we delved deeply into frames and discussed how frame selection can affect:
• Vision
• Comfort
• Convenience
• Aesthetics
• Patient confidence
We explored different frame materials including plastics and metals, their properties, advantages, limitations, flexibility, weight, heat adjustability, durability, and patient suitability.
We also discussed:
• Titanium, beryllium, aluminum, bronze, gold, silver, and other frame metals
• Different facial shapes and how to properly match them with suitable frame designs
• Frame styles such as aviators, cat-eye, rectangular, and round frames
The session further covered:
• Lens thickness requirements for full-rim, semi-rimless, and rimless frames
• Grooving and drilling considerations
• Minimum thickness requirements for different refractive indices
• Proper screw and hardware selection for rimless dispensing
A very rich and clinically relevant class indeed.
We continue the series next Saturday. Keep learning with us.
