“Isn't it better for my child to build natural immunity?” 🤔

It is understandable to wonder about this.

Getting sick can lead to immunity, but your child would have to go through the disease first, and that comes with real risks. Measles, for example, can cause pneumonia and brain swelling in young children.

Vaccines help the immune system build protection without requiring your child to face the disease first.

How long does vaccine protection last?

It depends on the vaccine.

Some vaccines provide long lasting protection, while others need additional doses or boosters to build or maintain protection.

Your child’s immunisation schedule is designed around the vaccines they need and when they need them.

If you are unsure whether another dose is due, check the immunisation card or speak to your healthcare worker.

Once my child gets a vaccine, how long does the protection last? 👀

There is no single answer for every vaccine.

Some vaccines give long-lasting protection. Others need more than one dose to build full protection, and some need a booster later to keep it strong.

That’s why following the recommended schedule matters, even when your child looks healthy.

Baby has just had a vaccine and is now acting a little differently? 😭

Before you panic, know that some mild reactions can happen after vaccination

Your baby may experience:
- Mild fever
- Soreness or swelling where the injection was given
- Fussiness
- Tiredness

These reactions are usually mild and short-lived.

But some symptoms require urgent medical attention. 🚨

If your baby has difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, widespread hives, severe weakness or collapse, seek urgent medical attention.

And if anything about your baby’s reaction concerns you, speak to your healthcare worker.
Do not panic. Do not ignore it. Ask.

Vaccine day can feel overwhelming when everyone seems to have an opinion.

But as a parent, you have the right to ask questions, understand the answers and make informed decisions without feeling pressured.

Consent isn’t about being told what to do. It starts with understanding.

Zainab’s story reminds us that informed parents are empowered parents. 💪🏽

Okay, but how do vaccines work? 👀

Vaccines help your baby’s immune system learn how to recognise and fight specific diseases.

Think of it as practice for the immune system. 🛡️💚

The vaccine helps the body prepare its defences, so it can respond more effectively if it encounters that disease in the future.
