Dear Singles and Married

The danger ‼️ of comparing your journey with others.

- Two 2️⃣ weeks ago, we had a talk with a group of Christian Women on a Platform known as “The Zipporah’s Company “ where we discussed the topic above. I will share a little from that discussion.

Danger‼️ (meaning)
* The probability or state of being exposed to injury, harm, or loss.
- Hazard, Risk

Comparing/Comparison (meaning)
- the act of comparing two or more people or things:
- the fact of considering something similar or of equal quality to something else:
- an examination of the differences between persons or things:

- At one time or another we all have struggled with the matter of comparison especially because we live in a world/society that constantly shows you what you don’t have.

- We’ve compared our physical appearance
- Our husbands
- Our Children (school, character,etc)
- Our Houses
- Our jobs
- Our clothes , jewelry, shoes, bags…)
- Our cars
- Our lives journey.etc

While it is good to watch and learn from others, it is dangerous to compare.

Dangers of Comparison

1. Envy
“A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14‬:‭30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
- Comparing yourself/marriage will soon lead to envy/jealousy when you become constantly aware of what you do not have which others seem to have.
- Envy can lead you to hate and resent people.

2. It makes you feel you’re not doing enough or do not have enough.
Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭4‬ ‭GW‬‬
“Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others.”

- No matter what God has blessed you with, if you constantly compare yourself with others, you will begin to think that you are constantly falling short.
- Not minding how “green your own grass” is, you will always think that the grass is greener on the other side.
- You will never understand what it means to be content.

I Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬
“Now godliness with contentment is great gain.”

3. Competition
- The moment you start comparing, you start competing.

4. Pride (of supposed achievements)
- The moment you start comparing, you think you are better than others and may not make any progress beyond where you were.
- This will bring Stagnation(because of perceived achievements)

5. It destroys relationships
- Comparing yourself with others will make you unable to keep your relationships genuine thus destroying them.

6. It puts unnecessary pressure on you, your spouse and family.
- You never see when you are doing well.
- You never see what your partner is doing right.
- You never see what your children are doing right.
- Everything and everyone will always fall short before you and that could make you a bitter person.

Exodus‬ ‭20‬:‭17‬ ‭GNT‬‬
““Do not desire another man's house; do not desire his wife, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns.””

7. It is a Sin
‭ - Comparison is rooted in worry which is sin.
- When you worry, you are unable to see what God has done or is doing in your life and marriage.
- When you compare, you are not grateful to God for what He has done or is doing in your life and marriage and thus you are not grateful.
- Comparison will rob you of seeing the goodness of God in your life and marriage.
- You are always comparing and so cannot be thankful.

Does This Mean You Should Not Admire or Learn From Others and Their Marriages?
Not at all!

ADMIRE (meaning)
- Admire is a verb that means to regard someone or something with a high level of respect, approval, or pleased wonder. It can refer to appreciating someone's character and abilities, or looking at something physically beautiful with pleasure.

- You admire them because of their Character & Morals: Respecting someone for their unwavering honesty, kindness, or humility.
- Achievements & Skills: Being in awe of someone's talent, resilience, or hard work.
- Inspiration: Looking up to someone because they motivate you to become a better version of yourself.

- To admire someone means to hold them in high esteem, looking up to them for their actions, character, or achievements. It is a blend of deep respect, approval, and affection. When you admire a person, you typically feel inspired by them and value their positive qualities.

- Admiration will lead you to become inspired by another person, learn from them, desire to do, and become better, but never to compete with them.
- While comparison could destroy you, admiration can help you grow.

In Conclusion,
- If we do not deal with the matter of comparison fast, it can become an obsession that consumes us.

I Samuel‬ ‭18‬:‭7‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“So the women sang as they danced, and said: “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.” Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed only thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” So Saul eyed David from that day forward.”

- It is probably because you are busy comparing that you are still at the same spot.
- While you waste time comparing, others are building and growing.

- Remember, it is a lack of wisdom for you to compare yourself with others.

“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”
‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Dear Singles
Short Story

Two friends;
(A male; let’s call him D, and female; let’s call her I.). Both believers in Christ and attending the same church.
They had a conversation one day that went as follows;

I- D, I did not see you in church on Sunday, did you travel?
D- No o, I had an unexpected guest. We met with her at that last concert we went for. She left on Sunday afternoon so I couldn’t make it to church.
I- Did you say her?!! No wonder you didn’t come to church!
D- Yes , her, nothing happened between us. I gave her my bed and I slept in the parlor.
I- Toh, be careful though. These things never end well. A female should not just visit you and even stay the night at your place with just the two 2️⃣ of you. Fear every appearance of evil my friend. She’s not your sister and body no be wood o!
D- For where?! The way I am, we can even sleep on the same bed 🛌 with a woman and I will not touch her.
I- I’ve said my own sha, be careful!

Fast forward ⏩ a few months later;

I- Back from school and asking a mutual friend about D after she came back home months later.
I- I have not heard from D in a long while now. Have you been seeing him? Hope he’s doing okay?

Mutual Friend of I and D-
- Ah, you mean he didn’t tell you? He’s married now o!
- Married?! How?! When?! To whom?!

Mutual friend- You don’t know her. It’s one lady he met at the last concert they went for. They started a relationship and the lady visited a few times. He said he wasn’t touching her until somehow she got pregnant 🤰 for him.
I- Lol, but I warned him! That’s why he has been avoiding my calls! He thought he was too wise or too smart! The first time he told me she came visiting, he said they slept in separate rooms. Now see what has happened! Abun ya faru no wonder he just disconnected himself. Toh, Allah ya ba da zaman lafiya ( the Lord give them a peaceful home)

Some Days Later…(D and I Meet)
I- D, how have you been?
D- I know you know already (looking humbled). I was disciplined by my Pastor and everything is draining enough.
I- Well, what can I say? I’m sure you eventually discovered the hard way that you cannot continue to play with hot coals and not get burnt.

The End!

Dear Singles

- Don’t say; “I will sleep on one side of the bed 🛌 and let her sleep on the other side without touching each other.”
- Don’t say “I will sleep on the floor and let her have the bed”

- Don’t feel too wise or too strong. If the Bible says “flee”, then flee!
- Don’t try to rationalize or tempt the devil!
- Don’t think you can handle it.
- Don’t think you can take hot coals into your hands and not get burned!

Be careful!

Long Post Alert ‼️
Please Be Patient and Read, Don’t Miss This!

Dear Husband and Wife
- Have you ever written a love letter to your spouse?
- Somehow I think that letter writing (this includes even writing letters between lovers) stopped with the Generation X and part of the Millennials.

- I think lovers, especially married couples should go back to the art of writing ✍️ letters. Especially in these days where even sending a text is becoming increasingly difficult for a lot of people.
- I believe that every letter written carries with it a “spirit” component that makes you travel into the thoughts and heart of the writer ✍️. As the recipient and reader, you get to share every emotion and therefore travel into the “moment” with the writer ✍️.

- During marriage counseling sessions, to help a couple rekindle their love and connection with each other, one of the exercises they could be asked to do by their Counselor is to write a letter to each other. This will usually help them to recall the good times they shared even when they were courting and into their marriage relationship. Before long after they have started writing ✍️, most couples confess that they begin to smile 😀, even laugh as they recall such moments when writing ✍️. They admit that their hearts begin to soften toward their husband or wife yet again and they begin to desire to have a repeat of those beautiful memories in real time again.
- Couple’s have been asked to express their hurts, express their needs, apologize to their husband or wife, etc. through letters.
- Sometimes, after writing the letters, the Counselor will have them sit facing each other, then the writer ✍️ will then read their letter to their spouse letting out the emotions as captured in their letter before handing it over to their husband or wife.
- This particular strategy works most of the time because both the heart of the writer/reader and the recipient/listener gets softened by the time the writing ✍️ , reading 📖 and listening👂is done .

- Today, I have decided to share with you a letter that I wrote to my husband in response to an assignment while attending a Couples retreat in another state seven 7️⃣ years ago which I accidentally bumped into while looking 👀 another book 📕 😃
- I have chosen to share this particular letter because I read it to him in a public meeting. So it wasn’t a just a “private letter”

Hey Sugar,

I’m really excited deliberately sitting to write this letter to you because it’s been a while. I must say I feel so good writing now.

As I thought about what to say to you, I had a reflection of our marriage of 7️⃣ years and 5️⃣ months exactly today, I discover that I have so much to be thankful to God for the gift of you to me.

I have never seen a man care so much like you do for me. Though I’m your wife,I’m sometimes even embarrassed by how you go out of your way for me. Amazingly, you’ve consistently grown in this area.

I love the way you love God and serve Him, and how you provide leadership for me spiritually and physically. Little wonder I call you my Bishop, my King. The way I see you live out the fruit of the Spirit challenges me everyday.

So many times, I’m amazed by stories of men who do not provide for their families! I never understand it at all because you’ve been a real and prompt provider for the family. The fact that one of your gifts is generosity, I’ve been the first recipient of this gift.
You sure do know how to spoil me silly. Imagine that sometimes I even complain that you’re spending too much on me!

My sweet, oh the things we do behind closed doors! My number one entertainer. I do enjoy all the dance moves you give me. It’s why I’m truly blessed that I married my best friend.

So many of your attributes attracted me to you in the first place, the fact that you can cook, love and respect God, respect people genuinely added to my attraction to you.
How you love and respect my parents and siblings too!

Ah guy, sometimes though you drive me so crazy! The thing is I can’t stay mad at you for long. The fact that you know how to be sorry and ask for forgiveness melts my heart. Plus you know how to get me to laugh. Besides I know I drive you really crazy too so many times, sometimes I wonder how you are able to manage me. You are just so sweet!

Seriously Babe, I just discovered that I have so much more to write✍️, but I see that though you’re forming that you’re asleep, the moment I climb that bed, we must conclude on the seminar by Elder and Mrs…Lol. I know you know;wink, wink. So I just have to go now but before I do, I want you to know that you are my hero, my world. I’ll do this over and over again with you because you’re simply the best!
I love you so much more than I think you know.

Your no.1 cheerleader,
You know who.
Kiss, kiss!

- I read the above letter to my husband the morning after ie on the 13th day of October. He got quite emotional listening to me read, the people listening oohed and aaaaahd. Well we got a gift 🎁 for this. 😅
- Seven 7️⃣ years down the line from that time, older and wiser, I can write ✍️ a letter even ten 🔟 times better than the one above. ⬆️
- Our marriage only got sweeter with time.

Dear Husband and Wife
- When last did you write ✍️ your spouse a letter?
- Why don’t you try to write one? It will amaze you how much a simple letter can spiral into many other things and even revive your marriage that has gone cold.
- Do not wait for your spouse to make the first move. Take the initiative.
- Remember, in marriage, being intentional is key!

NB- If I lay hold of one of my husband’s numerous letters and poems to me, and if the Lord and him permit me, then I will share. My husband is such a good writer ✍️! 🫣

- The picture is a throwback to that day when I read the above ⬆️ letter to my husband.

Dear Singles and Married

My name is Christiana Ibrahim Ambi
Popularly known as Mrs Ambi
Aka proudly Matan Ibra.

- Ah, I hear it’s now offensive to some people (especially women for a married woman to introduce herself as Mrs Ibrahim instead of Christiana)

- There’s something I want to post, but I’m coming fez (first), let me ask my husbands permission on whether to post that particular write up or not✍️

- Yaay!🙆🏽‍♀️ I heard a certain group of women got angry and even called a sitting Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria a “pick me “ just because she sought her husband’s permission before picking up a form to run for a second term.

- Looks like I am going to be called a “pick me” after-all ! 🤦🏽‍♀️

Please stay tuned for my post;

Have an amazing week ahead!

Dear Single Woman

- No matter how long you live with that man, no matter how many children you have for him, no matter how much you have toiled with him and carried on as his wife, no matter how his family and many people recognize you as his wife, if he has not paid your dowry, and officially married you, you are just a kept woman, a baby making person (what they call a baby mama)
You are really not different from a Single woman.

- He can walk away one day and leave you alone with the children to manage all by yourself.
- Remember, staying together and even having kids together is not a guarantee that he will marry you.

- If you do not know your worth, you will be treated as such. You are a pearl do not give yourself to a dog.🐕

Be Wise!!
