SMAC Weekly Feature 17: Meet Chiamaka Nwankwo | Mental Health Advocate, Counselor & Survivor

Chiamaka Nwankwo is a Counselling and Rehabilitation Studies professional, Communication and Administration Manager, and mental health advocate working with an NGO focused on community development and social impact. She's also a facilitator for menstrual hygiene projects and is passionate about mental health education, human behaviour, community advocacy, and empowering individuals through counselling, education, and impactful community-based initiatives.

Chiamaka Nwankwo brings a rare combination to this work: professional training paired with lived experience. She understands that care alone isn't always enough, healing also requires a person's own willingness to receive help and take steps toward their wellbeing.

Some of the hardest battles are invisible. You can smile, show up, and function outwardly while struggling deeply within. If you're at that point right now, I hope you know that reaching out isn't weakness, it's the first step toward healing.

Sometimes, being different is exactly what makes your life yours. Don’t spend your life trying to fit into someone else’s idea of who you should be. Be yourself, live fully, and give yourself permission to enjoy the life you have.

Today, August 12, we celebrate International Youth Day 2026, a day to recognize the voices, potential, creativity, and power of young people to shape a better future.

For us at SmacWellbeing | Mental Health Advocate and , supporting young people means creating spaces where they can understand their mental health, navigate the digital world with intention, and grow into themselves with dignity. It also means giving girls the freedom to understand their bodies, speak openly about their experiences, and access safe, culturally grounded support without shame.

Because the future is not shaped by young people simply being heard. It is shaped by what happens when they are informed, supported, and given the space to become who they are meant to be.

Young Minds Shape Tomorrow. 🌍

Happy International Youth Day! πŸ’š

August is National Wellness Month, and this month we want to talk about burnout, what it looks like, why we ignore it, and how to actually rest instead of just pushing through.

P.S. Please always remember you cannot pour from an empty cup. Do well to rest when needed and be patient with yourself.
