Diabetes
Diabetes is a long-term condition in which the body has difficulty controlling the level of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Glucose is the body's main source of energy, and the hormone insulin, made by the pancreas, helps move glucose from the blood into the body's cells.
Types of Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes β The body produces little or no insulin. It usually begins in childhood or young adulthood and requires insulin treatment.
Type 2 Diabetes β The body does not use insulin effectively or does not make enough. This is the most common type.
Gestational Diabetes β Develops during pregnancy and usually goes away after childbirth, but it increases the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later.
