Malaria is preventable.
Malaria is treatable.
So why are we still losing lives?
In commemoration of World Malaria Day 2026, themed “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must,” the NYSC Medical and Drug Free & Quality Control CDS groups in Argungu took bold, coordinated action to bring this message to life.
We started by strengthening our frontline—through a capacity-building training, CDS members were equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively educate, engage, and serve the community. Because if we must end malaria, we must first be properly prepared.
From there, we stepped into the community to tackle the problem at its root. A cleanup exercise was carried out in the main market Argungu by the Medical CDS and Drug Free & Quality Control CDS members to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, reinforcing a simple but powerful truth: prevention begins with our environment.
With momentum building, we moved through the market sensitizing and engaging market men and women through one-on-one meaningful conversations about:
• Consistent use of insecticide-treated nets
• Early recognition of malaria symptoms
• The urgency of seeking proper and timely treatment
• The cost of prevention vs the cost of treatment
We did not stop at awareness—we delivered care. The outreach culminated in a mobile clinic, where:
• Individuals were tested for malaria
• Those who tested positive received appropriate treatment
• Those who tested negative were given mosquito coils to support prevention
This was more than an outreach—it was action driven by urgency, guided by knowledge, and powered by collaboration between the members of the Medical CDS and Drug Free & Quality Control CDS and volunteering of other corp members from the local government.
