🇳🇬 *THE GUARDIAN RECOGNITION: A CALL TO GREATER SERVICE*
I am profoundly honoured to have been recognised by The Guardian Newspaper in its October 1, 2026 Special Independence Anniversary Edition, commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, as one of Nigeria’s 50 vision-driven professionals adding value to the Nigerian economy.
I receive this recognition with gratitude, humility and a renewed sense of responsibility.
For me, leadership has never been merely about occupying an office. It is about building institutions, creating value, solving problems and leaving systems stronger than we met them.
As the pioneer Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin City, I have had the privilege of contributing to the development of a new federal tertiary health institution established to expand access to specialised orthopaedic, trauma and rehabilitative healthcare, particularly for Nigerians within the South-South geopolitical zone and beyond.
Building a new institution comes with enormous responsibilities. It requires vision, resilience, innovation, teamwork and the courage to keep moving forward despite inevitable challenges. Every milestone we have recorded at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin City, has therefore been the product of collective effort and a shared determination to build an institution capable of delivering enduring value to Nigerians.
I wish to particularly acknowledge the leadership of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako; and the Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom, mni.
Their leadership and policy direction at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare continue to provide an enabling environment for federal tertiary health institutions to strengthen service delivery and contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Nigeria’s health sector.
I equally acknowledge His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda provides the broader framework within which ongoing reforms and investments in the health sector are being pursued.
Above all, I dedicate this recognition to the Management and Staff of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin City. Their commitment, professionalism, sacrifices and belief in our collective vision remain the driving force behind our progress.
I also appreciate my colleagues, mentors, friends and family whose encouragement and support have strengthened me throughout this journey.
At 66, Nigeria’s future will ultimately be shaped by what each of us contributes to nation-building. Recognition is gratifying, but the greater honour is the opportunity to serve.
This recognition by The Guardian therefore strengthens my resolve to keep working, keep building and keep contributing to the emergence of a stronger healthcare system and a better Nigeria.
The work continues. The vision remains clear. The commitment to service remains unwavering.
To God be all the glory.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria! 🇳🇬
