Persons with Disabilities, Advocates Demand Affordable Assistive Devices in Nigeria

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) and disability advocates have called on governments at all levels to make assistive technologies more affordable and accessible, citing the growing cost of essential devices needed for education, employment and independent living.

The call was made during the 2026 World Day for Assistive Technology commemorated by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) at the School for Arabic Studies (SAS) in Kano. Participants expressed concern that many persons with disabilities are being excluded from educational opportunities, digital services and economic activities because they cannot afford assistive devices such as visual aids, Braille materials and mobility equipment.
