A COURTESY VISIT FILLED WITH INSIGHT, GUIDANCE & INSPIRATION

This afternoon, representatives of YOMSA-YSU, YOSUMSA, and the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Club paid a courtesy visit to the Yobe State Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hamisu Alhassan Dama.

The visit was facilitated by our father, mentor, and lecturer, Professor Abdulmajeed Yunusa, alongside Dr. Abubakar Bilyamimu Mu’azu. It was a truly insightful and engaging meeting, filled with valuable guidance, constructive discussions, and encouragement.

Dr. Hamisu reassured the associations of his willingness to support and collaborate with our emerging (“baby”) associations as we continue to grow, serve, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare and community development. The meeting was also remarkably friendly, cheerful, and filled with moments of laughter, creating an atmosphere that allowed us to openly share our achievements, progress, experiences, and challenges in running our respective associations.

A particularly memorable moment was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Dr. Hamisu Alhassan Dama by the Secretary-General of YOSUMSA, Comrade Dauda Ibrahim Gado, in recognition of his remarkable efforts and contributions toward achievements and progress in Yobe State and beyond.

Dr. Hamisu warmly appreciated our efforts and commended our commitment to serving humanity despite the demanding workload and challenges that come with medical school. His words of encouragement and support were truly inspiring.

We are deeply grateful and honoured for this rare opportunity to interact with such a distinguished personality. We sincerely appreciate the warmth, kindness, hospitality, and welcoming reception extended to us by the WHO Yobe State office.

Thank you, Dr. Hamisu Alhassan Dama, for the warm reception and for believing in the potential of young healthcare professionals.

Musa Ahmad Dagona, a proud YOMSITE, delivered a powerful and thought-provoking speech at TEDx Damaturu, drawing much-needed attention to the rising prevalence of kidney diseases across some regions of Yobe State.

Through his compelling message, he called on the government, relevant authorities, and the general public to take urgent and meaningful action toward addressing this growing public health concern.

Today, YOMSA-YSU joins the global community in commemorating World Hepatitis Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about viral hepatitis and encouraging prevention, early diagnosis, and access to treatment.
Hepatitis remains a major global health challenge, yet millions of cases can be prevented through vaccination, safe health practices, routine screening, and timely treatment. Early detection saves lives and helps prevent serious complications such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.
As future healthcare professionals, we encourage every member of our community to learn the facts, get tested when necessary, and help spread accurate information. Together, we can break the silence, eliminate stigma, and work towards a future free from hepatitis.
