The Ekid Peoples Union (EPU) has reaffirmed its resolve to defend the ancestral heritage, land rights and political interest of the Ekid nation through lawful and peaceful means.

The President General of EPU, Dr Samuel Udonsak, stated this at the unionโ€™s general meeting held on Thursday at the EPU Secretariat in Eket.

Udonsak said the meeting was convened to review developments affecting the Ekid people between January and May 2026 and to strengthen strategies for protecting the collective interest of the nation.

He announced the death of Obong Iwaad Emmanuel Mbong, whom he described as an active member of the union, politician and community leader committed to youth mobilisation, peace and progress.

The EPU president said the unionโ€™s advocacy over its rights in the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve reached a critical stage after its 2025 Annual Congress, leading to the issuance of a Caveat Emptor on the reserve.

He said the development led to pressure on the union and its leadership, adding that intervention by senior political and community leaders brought some relief.

Dr Udonsak, however, lamented the continued detention of Princess Godโ€™sown Udoito, who he said was arrested on Jan. 13, 2026, and had since been remanded at the Uyo Correctional Centre.

He said her bail application had been declined, despite the fact that her purported offense is bailable, while the appeal and substantive case were ongoing.

โ€œSince this matter is before the court of law, we shall restrict our comments and trust that justice will be done,โ€ he said.

Udonsak commended individuals and institutions working for her release and urged Ekid people to remain prayerful, peaceful and committed to mediation.

He also expressed regret over the hurt caused to Gov. Umo Eno, his family and supporters by the style and tone of the unionโ€™s advocacy, saying the union had de-escalated its actions to create room for dialogue.

On land matters, Udonsak accused Ibeno interests of sustaining attempts to undermine Ekid claims over Akoiyak Ekid, including alleged efforts to rename communities, challenge official maps and identify Ekid villages as Ibeno villages.

He said the unionโ€™s Doctrine of Necessity remained a survival strategy aimed at protecting Ekid inheritance for future generations.

The EPU president commended Gov. Eno for his vision on roads, and the proposed Nnung Udoeโ€“Okposo Road, describing them as projects capable of opening up the blue economy.

He appealed for the construction of the eight-kilometre Edoโ€“Ndito Eka Iba Road to complement the development and the Coastal Highway.

Udonsak also welcomed the Senate President, Godswill Akpabioโ€™s declaration on the delineation of new State constituencies in Akwa Ibom, calling for the creation of Eket North and Eket South State Constituencies.

He said Eket Local Government Area had the voter and population strength to qualify for two state constituencies in line with INEC guidelines.

The union also urged traditional rulers to give effect to earlier deliberations on marriage and funeral rites.

Dr Udonsak called on Ekid people to remain united, peaceful and steadfast in defence of their identity, heritage and future.

WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR SISTER?

What if it was your daughter?
What if it was your mother sitting behind prison walls for months while the world moved on like nothing happened?

For over four months, Princess Godsown Udoito has remained in detention, and many people are asking:
How much longer?

The pain is no longer hers alone.
It has become the pain of Ekid youths.
The pain of families.
The pain of ordinary people who feel their voices no longer matter.

People are tired of being ignored.
Tired of watching fear silence communities.
Tired of pretending everything is normal.

This is about humanity.
This is about justice.
This is about standing together as one people and saying:
โ€œEnough is enough.โ€

I am calling on every concerned son and daughter of Eket and Esit Eket to join the peaceful demonstration in Eket.

Come with your voice.
Come with your conscience.
Come because silence today may become regret tomorrow.

If we cannot speak for our own people when they are down, then what kind of community are we building?

Let the government hear the cries of the people.
Let justice speak louder than power.
Let compassion defeat intimidation.

We will march peacefully.
We will stand united.
We will demand justice lawfully and fearlessly.

Princess God'sown Udoito is not alone.
Ekid people are watching.
Nigeria is watching.
History is watching.

Judith Etuk-Ogbara Consults EPU, Pledges Peace, Loyalty and Service to Eket Federal Constituency.

Dr. Judith Mayen Etuk-Ogbara, a leading contender for the House of Representatives election in Eket Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has pledged to promote peace, loyalty and community-focused representation if elected in 2027.

Etuk-Ogbara made the pledge during a consultation visit to the executive members of the Ekid Peopleโ€™s Union, EPU, at the residence of the President-General of the union, Dr. Samuel Udonsak, on Afaha Eket Road, Eket.

She commended Udonsak for what she described as his integrity-driven leadership and said her aspiration was anchored on service, unity and the collective interest of Eket Federal Constituency.

According to her, the peace efforts of Gov. Umo Eno remain worthy of emulation, adding that she would continue to advocate peaceful coexistence among communities.

โ€œI will continue to sue for peace because that is what I have come to know Akwa Ibom for. That is what our governor preaches, and I will preach peace as well.

โ€œWe must find a way to exist without robbing one another of what is rightfully ours,โ€ she said.

Etuk-Ogbara said her experience in the Liquefied Natural Gas sector, as well as her training as a public relations expert, had equipped her with the capacity to mediate conflicts and bring people together.

โ€œI know that communities will always have conflicts, but the ability to get people to sit down and address issues is a gift. I believe I have that gift.

โ€œThe task ahead is huge, and I need each and every one of you,โ€ she said.

The aspirant reaffirmed her commitment to the race, saying she remained undeterred by opposition and other challenges

โ€œIt is God who gives power to whom He chooses. I can see the hand of God, and I will not back down.

โ€œI want you to send me. My loyalty will be to the community and to Eket Federal Constituency. I am presenting myself for service, and I will not let you down,โ€ she said.

Responding, Udonsak commended Etuk-Ogbaraโ€™s aspiration, saying it aligned with what he called the โ€œDoctrine of Necessity.โ€

He said the political dynamics had created a favourable atmosphere for her ambition, expressing optimism that she would succeed.

โ€œThe God who sees your heart will see you through. I look forward to seeing you with the party ticket,โ€ Udonsak said.

Earlier, members of her campaign team, Barr. Ephraim Enembong and Mr. Edoho Mark, described Etuk-Ogbaraโ€™s aspiration as a mission to restore the pride of Ekid and strengthen representation for the constituency.

Also speaking, the President-General of Esop Mbong Mbaba, Obonganwan Jane Akpan, described Etuk-Ogbara as courageous, experienced, self-reliant and well-informed.

โ€œShe has what it takes to do the job and represent Eket Federal Constituency,โ€ Akpan said.

Etuk-Ogbara was formally inducted into the union by Mrs. Grace Ediyang.
